Chris, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I wake up, have yogurt, water, and pre-workout, take a quick dog walk, then hit the gym. After, I refuel with breakfast and a smoothie, which sets me up for a long creative work session.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Chris Kittrell, the artist behind Baby Alpaca—dream-pop that puts the everyday through an ethereal lens. My new single “I Wonder If I Go” explores loss, growth, and that magical-scary feeling of the unknown. I’m currently working on a new music video and gearing up for my second LP, Stars Above.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Definitely a dreamer—wandering the woods and singing up to the clouds. I’ve tried to hold onto that kid inside.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I’ve had plenty of almost-quit moments. The road can be long and quiet, sometimes lonely. But the beauty of it—and the music I hear in my head—pulls me back every time. “I Wonder If I Go” sits right on that edge: staring at the unknown and choosing to move forward.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. Baby Alpaca started as a nickname and became my music name—it’s just me through a dreamy lens, same heart, slightly idealized.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
I’d stop overworking and start living—family, travel, new experiences—and keep writing, because that part of me never clocks out.
