Chasity Ramsey shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Chasity, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
I love spending time in the sun! Whether that is sitting out by the pool, surfing in the ocean, or hiking…feeling the sun on my face reminds me that I’m ALIVE and breathing!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Chasity and I am a yoga/meditation instructor in Pasadena, CA and a Reiki Master Healer. I curate creative, fulfilling and inspiring yoga classes that empower my students to find inner liberation and peace off the practice mat. I use multiple healing modalities to foster well-being and inspire others to live vibrantly and joyfully. Aside from my metaphysical practices and teachings, I work in elementary schools across LA bringing mindfulness and arts to after-school programs! Currently, I facilitate yoga, reiki, meditation, and kids yoga workshops and classes in studios and for private clients.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Truthfully, the first yoga class I took as an adult shaped a lot about who I am today and how I conduct myself in the world and interact with others. Before I redefined my love for yoga, I was a professional dancer. Although, that part of my life was invigorating and fun–it definitely took a toll on my mental health. Movement became something I had to do with my body to impress or stand out in an audition room. I constantly felt like I was on display. Fast forward about seven years later, and I have reshaped my identity around movement, the body, and more importantly the subtle body experience. Being able to move my body in an ecstatic way, has helped me find and feel that same ecstatic experience in conversations, work, and everything in between. That first yoga class as an adult, catapult me into feeling free in my body again which has helped me feel more clarity in my mind, and more radiant in my emotions.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I used to feel swallowed up by my fear of what other people were thinking of me. I often found it so incredibly tough to express myself and I would blame it on being shy or introverted. Truth was, I created a ton of my own social anxiety by constantly being obsessed with what other people were thinking. I was always afraid of being portrayed as silly, weird, awkward, strange, ect. But the truth is…everyone is silly, weird, awkward, and strange!! No one has it all figured out so we might as well stop worrying about getting it right because we can’t get it wrong! Your life is for YOU to experience and devour and enjoy!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
I think it can be incredibly easy to be swept up in fads or new trends. But what I’ve discovered, is when you ask the universe or God for a shift or expansion and you’re truly ready for it, the foundational shifts have a funny way of showing up on a silver platter for you. A shift in the foundation of who you are and what you believe will have every bone in your body believing that it’s right. Things and decisions will just start feeling right and not forced. Those big shifts will feel like they’ve been a long time coming and you’ll find yourself totally committed to seeing it through. When something is a fad or a trendy– you’re more likely to lose interest and momentum. And that’s just a sign that it’s not for you!
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What light inside you have you been dimming?
Until recently, I used to allow everyone and everything to dim my inner light. On the yogic path, we often refer to the chakra system. The third chakra, located in the solar plexus, is all about your inner light/fire. Throughout a lot of my life, I felt like everyone around me was squashing my inner fire. Always telling me what to do, how to act, how to respond, ect ect ect. Recently actually, I rediscovered my inner flame through a LOT of inner work. And when I reignited that flame, I knew there was no going back to who I was before. And that created a LOT of big life shifts within a matter of weeks. But when you truly step onto the path you were meant to be on, when you find your soul purpose, everything and everyone that is not aligned with that will be removed from your path. And sometimes that can feel scary and like you’re not really ready for it but from my own personal experience…I promise you that you are more than ready. And have been for a very long time.
