Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Nicole de la Cruz of Hollywood

Nicole de la Cruz shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Nicole, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Hands down, integrity is the most important thing to me. Keeping honest communication and honest actions throughout my work and collaborations is key to having good morals and trust between partnerships. That’s most important to me and would be a dealbreaker if I thought someone I was working with lacked integrity.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Nicole de la Cruz, I am a fantasy pop rock singer-songwriter, actress and social media content creator. What is fantasy pop rock you may ask? It’s pop rock with my own whimsical, magical twist. Incorporating my love for fantasy books and movies, I have blended the early 2000s pop-rock sound and a modern day alternative edge with medieval fantasy influences. Featuring heavy hitting bass sounds, electric guitar, orchestration and rock drums, my music showcases my desire for a fantasy-filled world, highlighting deep discussion with empowering lyrics that feel like a song out of a fantasy battleground or ethereal world.

Coming from a musical upbringing and being raised by a single mother, I sought out an escape from the world through fantasy reading and, of course, music. Combining the two together, you get music and lyrics inspired by strong heroines and heroes that leaves a positive impact on the world.

My music is a brush stroke of the childish color and creativity that continues to live on inside. The colors a swath of blues, purples and greens; a blend that reminds you of galaxies that seem out of this world with an on-stage artist image to match.

My music empowers people to step into their power, take charge of their life, provoke new thoughts and perspectives, know that they are not alone in their emotions and help them learn to embrace the light of this experience we call life.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bond between people is a lack of trust. Whether that be trust that they aren’t going to steal your wallet, or trust that they will be there for you during hard times– whatever trust you had between each other is what continues that bond. In order to regain that trust, actions speak louder than words (a cliche, but true), so you must take actionable steps that show the other person can trust you again, to restore that bond.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
In those moments, being with my mom, being alone, or praying to God would help. Also writing out my feelings or what I was thinking, as well as reading stories about other people almost as a form of escapism.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would probably say that my family and my career really matter to me. I have always been goal-oriented with more ideas than I can count or achieve in a lifetime. My dedication to my music, my acting, my filmmaking and beyond are what drive me everyday and that and, of course, my family – have always been my top priorities.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m doing what I was born to do. Young 10 year-old Nicole was making YouTube videos, writing stories for novels and scripts for mini web shows, she was writing song lyrics and singing- improving her craft, she was making duck taped wallets and learning how to make complicated bracelets to sell on her endeavors of becoming a businesswoman. She was making blog posts on a website she decided to build one summer about fashion. She was going door to door in her neighborhood to sell those previously mentioned duck taped wallets and dragging her friend along with her. She was performing on stages and dreaming big, both for acting and singing. She was hoping her self-edited Youtube web show with original music was going to take off and go viral. I’ve always done the same thing, in different ways. Create.
