Rising Stars: Meet Skyler Mulhearn of Simi Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Mulhearn.

Hi Skyler, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always knew I wanted to be part of the event industry, it just took me a little while to figure out exactly how. I grew up surrounded by events, watching my mom build her own wedding and event planning business from the ground up. Seeing the beautiful experiences she created for people while also being present for our family left a lasting impression on me. Like her, I wanted to create something meaningful that allowed me the flexibility to finish school and pursue my dream of becoming a neonatal nurse.

Ice cream has always been a staple in our family whether it was to celebrate something big or simply enjoy a moment together. It’s always been our “sweet escape,” so I thought, why not bring that same joy to others on their special day?

That’s how our ice cream cart business was born. After some research, I realized that people are constantly looking for fun, memorable, and unique experiences for their events. Our cart offers just that whether it’s a wedding, birthday, baby shower, or corporate gathering.

We proudly serve small-batch ice cream from a local creamery in the Santa Ynez Valley. It’s made with fresh, organic ingredients sourced from sustainable farms, and we also offer dairy-free options to ensure there’s something for everyone. Supporting local has always been important to our family, being a small business myself, I know how impactful community support can be.

The cart itself is as functional as it is photo-friendly. It’s fully self-sufficient, stays cold for hours, and can be placed just about anywhere. With its neutral design, it blends seamlessly into any décor, whether you want to style it with flowers, balloons, or just let its charm speak for itself.

Our ice cream cart offers more than just a treat it brings a joyful, nostalgic experience that guests remember long after the event. Especially here in California, where sunshine is almost always part of the celebration, it’s the perfect sweet addition.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like with anything new you start, whether it’s starting school, learning a new career, or even riding a bike there are always bumps along the way. Building a business takes time, patience, and flexibility, and there have definitely been moments where things didn’t go as smoothly as I’d hoped. From navigating permits and logistics to figuring out how to market something new and unique, it’s been a learning experience from day one.

What’s helped me the most is staying open to learning and leaning on those around me. My mom, who’s also in the event industry, has been a huge support and guide throughout this journey. I’ve also been lucky to connect with an amazing group of small business owners in the ice cream and event world. We share tips, encourage one another, and truly believe in community over competition. Knowing that I’m not alone, and that there’s always someone willing to help or offer advice, has made all the difference.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I run a boutique ice cream cart business that brings a sweet, nostalgic, and personalized touch to weddings, private parties, and corporate events. We specialize in creating a memorable guest experience offering locally-sourced, small-batch ice cream, including dairy-free options, all served from our charming and photo-friendly cart. It’s more than just dessert it’s a full vibe that people remember.

I’m most proud of how the business blends my love for celebrations, hospitality, and community. I come from a family rooted in the event industry (my mom’s a wedding planner), so attention to detail and genuine care for our clients runs deep. I wanted to create something unique, fun, and stress-free for hosts, and I love knowing that we get to play a small part in someone’s big day.

What sets us apart is the experience we provide. It’s not just about handing out scoops it’s about bringing joy and connection to events, while staying committed to high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients and sustainable practices. I also think the personal touches we add from customizable flavor signs to custom signs with the clients names we make our service truly feel tailored and special.

At the end of the day, I love knowing that we’re not just serving ice cream….we’re serving happiness in a cup (or cone!).

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something most people don’t know is that I’m on the path to becoming a nurse, specifically a neonatal nurse. While I absolutely love running my ice cream cart business and being part of people’s happiest moments, I’m also deeply passionate about caring for others in a very different way. Nursing has been a longtime dream of mine, and I’m currently working toward that goal. It’s a completely different world from events, but both are rooted in connection, service, and heart, which is something I carry with me in everything I do.
