Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Davis.
Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a proud Filipino American, and like many in our community, I grew up hearing that nursing was the only “real” career path. But I was the rebellious one out of my three siblings—I always knew I was meant to do something different.
In college, I took a child development class and instantly fell in love. That passion led me to become a teacher. I loved being around children, teaching, and constantly learning. It came naturally to me—just like staying calm under pressure, solving problems on the fly, and staying organized no matter what was thrown my way.
When I had my first child, I decided to become a stay-at-home mom. Then the pandemic hit, and like it did for so many others, everything changed. During that time, I found myself planning events for family and friends—birthdays, baby showers, small get-togethers—and I was genuinely good at it. I realized I was using the same skills I had as a teacher: managing details, navigating chaos, and creating joyful experiences for others.
At one point, I was planning multiple events a month—for free. My husband finally looked at me and said, “You need to turn this into a real business.” And he was right. That was the push I needed.
That’s how this journey started. From a teacher to a stay-at-home mom to an event planner, I found my purpose in helping people celebrate life’s special moments with intention, care, and a whole lot of heart.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In fact, this journey has come with its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest lessons I had to learn early on was how to work with other vendors in this industry. Collaboration sounds easy in theory, but in reality, I quickly realized that this is a competitive business—where everyone is trying to make money and be number one.
There’s also a huge misconception that event and wedding planning is an “easy” job or something that anyone can do. That couldn’t be further from the truth. What we do takes intense organization, emotional intelligence, creativity, and stamina—often all at once and under pressure.
I’ve had to learn to stand my ground, to advocate for myself, and to protect my time, energy, and business. Asking for help hasn’t always come naturally to me, but I’ve learned that it’s necessary—and that surrounding yourself with the right people makes all the difference.
Unfortunately, not everyone in this space operates with integrity. I’ve come across people who have tried to tear me and my business down. But I’ve also learned that resilience is key. No matter what, I won’t be brought down. These lessons have made me stronger, wiser, and more determined to succeed.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an event planner—and not just for weddings! I plan all types of events, from quinceañeras and bat mitzvahs to baby showers and milestone birthdays. I actually started out planning baby showers and children’s parties, which are still some of my favorite events to this day. They’re full of joy, creativity, and fun.
But there’s something truly special about weddings. Watching the bride walk down the aisle and thinking to myself, “Yeah, I helped make this moment happen”—that’s an incredible feeling.
What sets me apart is my honesty. I’m known for being direct and straightforward. Some people might find that a little intense at first, but I believe in being truthful without sugarcoating or overpromising. I don’t hide things, and I never exaggerate—I tell it like it is, always with professionalism and respect.
I’m also a really great listener. A lot of my clients just need someone to talk to during the planning process—someone who gets it. I’m that person. I offer a space for them to vent, reflect, and see things from a different perspective. I care deeply about their happiness and vision, and I’ll always advocate for what they want, no matter what the situation is.
What I’m most proud of is how I’ve turned my passion into a business built on trust, care, and real connections. My goal is always to make my clients feel heard, supported, and confident—because that’s what they deserve.
What are your plans for the future?
My ultimate goal? Destination weddings, baby! I want to combine my love for travel, events, and food—all in one. Imagine planning a wedding on a beach in Greece or a vineyard in Italy, then celebrating with local wine and pasta? Yes, please!
I’m also working on expanding my business beyond California. I want to bring my planning services to clients all over, wherever the party is! Big changes are definitely on the horizon, and I’m so excited for what’s next. More stamps on my passport, more incredible events, and definitely more amazing meals—because let’s be honest, I’m 50% here for the food!
