Life & Work with Jaimyon Parker of Los Angeles, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaimyon Parker.

Hi Jaimyon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Jaimyon is a published poet; a talented sketch artist; professional graphic designer; portrait & event photographer; and award-winning actor, writer, and director. Initially entering the entertainment industry strictly as an actor, he soon found himself writing and editing scripts for independent producers in Houston, TX where he’s from, and then Los Angeles when he moved there. Jaimyon has been blessed with the opportunities to work both in front of and behind the scenes in iconic, legendary theatres such as the Stella Adler Theatre and Pasadena Playhouse. He’s been in front of and behind the camera for television shows such as Bones, In The Cut, The Texas Live Show, and Better Things; worked on independent films and webseries such as Saved Rounds, Holding Back, and Wind In The Willow Tree; and created and produced two television pilots. He’s got experience in almost every crew position on a film set or backstage at the highest level.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are always struggles and obstacles to overcome. Initially, I had no idea how to even begin to pursue a career as an actor or creative professional in any capacity. With God’s guidance, I met a woman who would become my mentor and who got me started on my journey by helping me find classes and workshops so that I could first learn the craft of what I was saying I wanted to do. Once I was ready, she helped me find auditions and her production office was my home away from home where I met many friends and contacts who have become life-long companions on this artist’s journey of mine. When I started writing and producing films in Houston, that community came together and I was able to plug in and accomplish my goals.
Upon moving to Los Angeles, I left the network and contacts that I knew and was able to rely on to get things done, and had to start all over again. Luckily, I had one friend in LA that had been here for a few years and was able to introduce me to some people, allowing me to start growing my network in California.
The road has not been smooth, and success has never been guaranteed. The worst struggle that I faced though, has been my own doubt and fears. Those can be debilitating and threaten to cripple any endeavor or project that I take on. The only way I have been able to combat them is through my faith in God, which reminds me that I am perfectly made, with all my flaws and eccentricities. The desires of my heart, the gifts and talents that I have, all come from Him, and He gave me everything I need to accomplish everything I have it in my heart to do.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an actor/writer/producer/director/editor, poet, photographer, graphic designer, and all-around creative being. I’m typically known as someone who can “do it all” though that is a bit of a misnomer. Acting, writing, editing, photography, and graphic design are the areas I’m called on for most times.

I’m most proud of the films and stage productions I’ve been able to create and produce. From the amazing people I created them with to the awards that we’ve won together, I love the collaboration of this creative work.

What sets me apart from others is everything that makes me the artist that I am. There is no one who can do what I do like I do it.

What matters most to you?
My faith in and relationship with God. He created me to be here and to do what it is I do. There is a purpose for my being alive and His will is for me to fulfill that purpose. I believe that this life and these incredible opportunities to use my gifts and talents to support myself creatively are all a part of His plan for my life, and there is nothing more important than that.
