Exploring Life & Business with Carlos Kidd of Carlos Kidd ( Personal brand ) / Lighthouse Visions / Safe Space

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Kidd.

Hi Carlos, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Of course. My creative journey began with dance. It was the first medium through which I truly felt connected—to myself, to others, and to something greater than me. Dance taught me discipline, expression, and the power of presence, and it became a foundational part of how I navigate the world today. The younger version of me loved the greats like Michael Jackson, Usher; going into my teenage years Chris Brown and Omarion, etc. The iconic dance artist and movies of those times shaped my admiration for the art form and expanded my vision for the trajectory in which dance can expand and transform. Throughout all stages of my childhood through school, my body seemed to always speak for itself and found myself always told I couldn’t stop moving. From mini popping and waving habits in the middle of class & with friends during recess to being in my room just sitting down and being able to memorize movement I saw in music videos on tv; I was always the one who couldn’t stop moving. It was always a hobby and art form I loved that wouldn’t have taken the forefront until my sophomore year in college. Being on scholarship for accounting ( I’m really exceptional at math lol), I was on the route to living a very conventional and tradition lifestyle that seemed logical and stable; (of course to societies’ standards at the time). As time went on, between classes and days off I always found myself discovering dance videos on Youtube. One video, in particular, sent me into a deep soul journey I feel God had hands on and that I didn’t foresee coming. A great educator and choreographer who later became a close teacher and mentor for a bit named Luam posted a class video doing choreography to “Unbelievable by Alicia Keys”. I was always fond of dance and the worlds it created but something about this moment, this choreography, this emotion, in the morning, while in my dorm room, it shook me to the core, down to my bones, and told me something about where I was physically didn’t match where God wanted me to be. By the end of the video, I found myself crying without a surface level reason as to why. All I knew was, I needed to rewatch it over 100 more times. It became clear on my way to my next class that afternoon, my nervous system rejected everything about the life I was currently living. I lived an entire life after that but I believe my heart and soul, before I actually made the decision myself consciously, made the choice that I was a professional dancer from that day forward.

Unfortunately, or luckyly, with life and the turn events following the next few months, due to a chronic pain condition I had since junior year in high school, it interrupted the flow of my classes and attendance forcing me to lose my scholarship. With life opening up as it did, reconnecting with a friend of mine from high school, she opened up in our conversation about a dance company I vaguely heard about (Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre), which later that year, after being surprised with tickets to go see their show, as a birthday gift, opened my eyes completely to the life I was going to live moving forward. I think that show was when my heart, soul, and mind came into alignment with how & where God wanted me to be.

From that moment, all of my artistic interest rose to the surface, like a flower blooming. Along with dance, I fell in love with film, photography, acting, and storytelling. I started doing work study at most famous dance studios in NYC and climbed my way up within a matter of 3 years to commercial jobs, with B list / A list celebrity opportunities. The journey involved self crafted day-long training structures. I tried to model what going to a professional dance school would of required of me and create that same schedule of myself (if I was going to keep up with all of these dancers who started from when they were very young). Nonetheless, and little did I know, all of this would be the catalyst to a more deeper, spiritual, and emotional hero’s journey back to a sense of myself I think God was trying to reconnect me with. Over time, that relationship with movement evolved into a broader desire to tell stories—not just through the body, but through deep spiritual philosophies, images, emotions, and atmosphere.

With photography just below the surface, it started as a small curiosity but quickly turned into a deep creative calling during the pandemic working with an ex-partner at that time. I became fascinated with the emotional resonance of imagery, particularly in the realms of fashion, film, portraiture, and music culture. I gravitated toward wanting to create visuals that felt cinematic ( as being a movie director is one of my biggest dreams) —moments that look like stills from a film, where mood and storytelling come together to reflect something real and lasting. For me, it’s always been about capturing, expressing, or living the real authentic essence behind the context of the art.

Eventually, I felt the need to create something larger than myself, which led to the founding of Safe Space & Lighthouse—my creative company, Spiritual & Mental Health Wellness brand, and long-term visions. Lighthouse was born during the beginning of the pandemic, a desire to build not just beautiful visuals & images, but also an intentional creative space. It started with photography, but the vision has now grown into a multidisciplinary media house, and eventually progressing into full-length features. Just as important as the work itself, the culture I’m building which is one rooted in equality, integrity, fair collaboration, and a deep respect for the creative & spiritual process is just as imperitive. With spiritually & God being the root of all of my handlings, Safe Space started as a challenge to bring people together during quarantine; with vulnerable connection and conversation being the forefront of the process to healing and staying sane at such a dark time. I’ve always been a spiritual and mental health advocate as those topics reign very deep for me soul wise, due to my very own personal experience and watching the world at large knowing more of these places need to be created for all human beings. As that took a break during the evolution of me and my consciousness as a man, an artist, person, and spirit; I’m resurrecting it with a fuller more involved/evolved identity and sense of being. With working on getting my Yoga and Tai Chi certification, there’s a lot in store for this brand like retreats & workshops but since it’s still in its infancy, I’ll allow its unfolding to speak for itself.

Its been a long journey for sure, but evidently moving though the mundane, God has shown me he has had his hands on it the entire time. I’m happy to be an observer and witness to not only his work but His eternal purpose.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey hasn’t been linear at all to say the least. There were seasons where I felt like I was doing everything “right”—reaching out, building my portfolio, working for free, growing creatively—but still being met with rejection or silence; after such a moment in my career feeling like I was just on the brink of success right before the quarantine started in 2020. It forced me to go inward and confront how I viewed myself, my worth, and my relationship to money, validation, accomplishment, fulfillment, and success. I had to stop chasing and start choosing myself and actually understand what that actually meant. Being a dancer, the very industry culture itself is built to touch on the wound of comparison, worth, stepping into the unknown, and being secure in one’s own skin/faith. As with any spiritual journey, I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I will say, this in particular has been such a rocky road. When God wants you to go through a journey to find him again the many lives you will live to reconnect and understand your purpose is never easy. Being a man in today’s society and with an ever evolving culture, trying to redefine yourself/heal though old habits and expectations, it easily became a process that leads to deep isolation; which was just as equally transformative.

That healing led me to reevaluate everything—my surroundings, energy, life, and presence. I let go of substances, reconnected with my body and reconnected with my authentic energy in a sacred way, and began living with more intentionality and depth. Along that journey many of my youthful goals transformed and evolved to deeper understanding and boarder visions than accolades that refer to a resume build.

Where I am today is the result of years of aligning what I do with who it is that I truly am. That healing process not only as a man but an ever growing & transforming artist / healer wasn’t easy nor societally encouraged. I feel the mainstream pull and temptation of the limelight has the ability to keep you from staying in touch with whats real in your heart, mind, and soul but most importantly what’s your God given purpose and truth. I no longer feel the need to prove myself—I just focus on being true, which I thank God everyday for getting me to this point. I feel through His will, i’m currently on the right track to building a life, a company, and a legacy that reflects that. With how God works, you never know where the next turn may lead and where I may be guided next but currently God has my eyes set on those paths.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Sure. My personal brand Carlos Kidd, shows I’m a multidisciplinary artist and visionary creative who blends movement, visual storytelling, and inner work into everything I create. Known first for my roots in dance, I make it a point to approach art as a spiritual practice—one grounded in presence, discipline, and emotional honesty. My journey through dance evolved into photography/ short form film, and now into full-scale creative direction, allowing me to express truth through multiple mediums. As a personal brand, I stand out for my ability to merge depth with aesthetic. Whether through visuals or conversation, I desire to invite people into intentional spaces where healing, faith, authenticity, and truth co-exist. What I truly believe sets me apart is the internal work behind my external expression—I try to ground myself in not creating for attention, but from alignment. I’ve learned to be most proud of my evolution: the way my life, art, and offerings now mirror the man I envision myself becoming/already am. For those engaging with my brand, I suggest you expect work that feels human, cinematic, and honest—whether it’s a portrait session, a creative collaboration, a dance/choreography, or a space for reflection and embodiment. My believe presence is both grounded and aspirational—a living example of what it means to build something real from the inside out.

My company Lighthouse Visions is my flagship creative company and growing media house, designed to showcase and provide for artists of all kinds. Stories with cinematic depth & emotional clarity. We at the moment specialize in photography, behind-the-scenes content, performance documentation, editorial fashion, and music culture. Lighthouse is a deep reflection of the love for film and depth; with a vision to be will known for producing visuals/movies —moody, intentional, and timeless. But Lighthouse isn’t just a visual studio—it’s a movement. I founded it with the goal of building a photography career, and in-time expanding to desiring a creative ecosystem that honors the integrity of the process just as much as the final product; mirroring exactly what I felt I was missing in my personal journey. What sets Lighthouse apart is its soul. It’s not a place where creators are reduced to a brand—it’s where they are seen, respected, and treated fairly. It’s where emerging and established talent can come together to make meaningful work, without sacrificing self nor values. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the culture Lighthouse represents: visionary storytelling rooted in care, clarity, and artistic excellence. Everyone should know that Lighthouse is expanding. From photography services to all kinds of video services, artist creative documentation to collaborative projects with other artists—this is only the beginning of what Lighthouse will become.

Safe Space is my healing-centered platform designed to support mental/emotional wellness, spiritual self-discovery, and inner alignment of faith—especially for creatives, men, faith-based individuals, and those navigating all types of transitions. All information and content given and aired are rooted in my own personal transformation and deep spiritual studies. Safe Space was born from a desire to offer what I once needed: a place where people could come home to themselves, not only with themselves but with others in deep reflective conversation. Safe Space creates tools that help individuals regulate, realign, and restore their sense of self with themselves and with God. Offering service calls holding space for inner turmoil, transformation, and deep reflective conversation. I aim to invite change and liberation through held space & open minded dialogue. What sets it apart is its tone—gentle but real, spiritual but grounded, aesthetically beautiful yet deeply functional. My approach is not about fixing people—it’s about giving them the tools to remember who they already are; everyday of their life. For anyone seeking deeper connection to self, nervous system support, spiritually based intentional practices, Safe Space is a sanctuary— all literal, digital, and spiritual—offering real tools for real healing.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I believe we’re in the middle of a massive energetic, spiritual and creative shift leaving people with two choices that either brings them into the old or new paradigm of existing/relating to others. Over the next 5 to 10 years, the industry won’t just evolve in aesthetics or technology (with the deep levels of advancement in AI tech in all fields of work/study), but in intention. People are craving & being pushed to substance. Wondering what is real and what isn’t is going to force the average watcher to integrate & filter all information through the heart space to decipher between illusion and reality.. We’re moving out of a season of unconscious overstimulation and surface-level content and into a new era where storytelling, emotional resonance, and spiritual depth actually matter again. I see a return to soul-led creation—art that moves people, that tells the truth, that has weight and authentic meaning behind it.

At the same time, I think we’ll see more multidisciplinary creatives stepping into leadership. The old model of staying in one lane is dissolving. We’re going to see more individuals—like myself—who direct, shoot, perform, hold space, and heal all under the same roof. Audiences are becoming more intuitive; they’re tuning into energy just as much as execution. So what you carry behind the scenes—the way you treat your team, the energy you bring into a room, your values—will be just as important as the final product.

I also think integrity and transparency are going to define the next wave of success. From fair pay and team dynamics to ethical content creation and spiritual embodiment, the creators and companies that truly lead will be the ones that operate from wholeness. For me, that’s why I built “Lighthouse”—to be ahead of that curve. And on the healing side, I believe men’s mental health, nervous system awareness, and energetic hygiene will no longer be seen as “optional” or “soft” but as essential foundations for true longevity in art and business. We’re moving into an age where alignment isn’t just personal—it’s professional. And I’m definitely here for it.
