Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Luca.
Hi Joseph, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I found my way into pop songwriting through a slow, steady evolution spending over a decade exploring a wide range of sideman and session gigs. I started out as a bass player, gradually expanding my reach by applying what I learned to every instrument I could get my hands on. It took about five years before I uncovered a deep, often unspoken desire: to express emotions and experiences through music that words alone couldn’t capture. What drew me to pop songwriting was its ability to distill complex human experiences into something clear and resonant. I’ve always connected with the idea that “If I had more time, I would have written a shorter letter” pop demands precision and emotional economy. For me, the craft has become a way to bring visibility and validity to parts of the human experience that often go unseen or unspoken in our culture.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road and that’s a big part of why I do what I do. Over the years, I’ve faced serious health challenges while simultaneously pursuing a career as a pop artist. A few years ago, I broke two vertebrae in my spine and later developed two debilitating conditions: kyphosis and thoracic outlet syndrome. For nearly a year, I couldn’t properly play my instruments or even hold up my phone for more than five seconds without feeling exhausted. After navigating countless setbacks in the healthcare system, I finally discovered a practice called Functional Patterns. Thanks to that, I’ve fully recovered from both conditions. That chapter of my life taught me the true value of expression and brought me closer to source in ways I never could have anticipated. I’m deeply grateful to be where I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I write and express pop music as a means to bring validity to the ambitious dreamers and outcasts within our society that haven’t been given a safe place to transcend any idea or belief system that would hold them back from being their most authentic and expressive self. Where love isn’t is is where my work is. What sets me apart is simply that I won’t compromise any element of my work to get ahead in this industry. Any corners cut will only take me where someone else has already been.
Any big plans?
Pursuing resonance and allowing it to take me where ever I belong. I believe the most powerful thing a person can be is “Here Now”. I’m certain many big changes will come with this philosophy.
