Rising Stars: Meet Dawson Fuss of Glendale, Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawson Fuss.

Hi Dawson, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started writing music when I was in middle school, but didn’t really start to take it seriously until high school. I released my first single “Hey You” in 2021 when I was a 16-year-old junior in high school, and from that moment, I knew I wanted to make music for the rest of my life. I applied to music schools all over the country, but ultimately ended up at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, and I just graduated a couple of weeks ago!

I’m now living in Glendale, CA, where I’m pursuing music, freelance photography, and graphic design full time. It’s so amazing to be able to get to live my dream and create a lifestyle for myself that fulfills me and gives me a purpose.

I’m currently finishing up my third EP called “ARCHITECTURE” which I plan to release later this summer, so stay tuned!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Being an artist inherently comes with hardships, from imposter syndrome, to perfectionism, to feeling stuck in your career. When I find that I’m beating myself up about not feeling motivated, or not satisfied with my art or not feeling good enough, I remind myself that there’s nothing else I’d rather be doing, so that helps motivate me and to keep my head down and keep working hard.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist and songwriter, as well as a photographer and graphic designer, so being able to express myself in multiple artistic mediums is a huge gift. I’ve been singing and making music for forever, but recently got into photography and graphic design over the past couple years, so it has been super fun projecting my artistic vision into a physical medium, not just an auditory one.

I use the term “world building” when working on my own projects and helping others develop their brand. I think it’s so important nowadays for artists to understand what their brand looks like, not just sounds like, and I think being an artist myself allows me to communicate with artists and help them reach their full branding potential.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family is the most important thing in my life because they have always been my biggest cheerleaders and support system for my art. When I was a kid, I had a million different hobbies from making balloon animals to doing magic tricks to folding origami, and they were always as excited as I was about what my current hobby was. They’ve shown me unconditional love and will forever owe everything to their love and support.
