Inspiring Conversations with Kenneth Martin of Dr. Kenneth Martin – Chiropractor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth Martin.

Hi Kenneth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Originally from East Liverpool, Ohio, I moved to California in 1969 to pursue a career in music, which never took hold.
After taking the MCAT exam for medical school, a colleague referred me to Cleveland Chiropractic College, which I attended for 1 year before transferring.

I have been a Doctor of Chiropractic for 50 years, having graduated in 1975 from the Pasadena College of Chiropractic (then known as the University of Pasadena, School of Chiropractic). I have specialized in the non-surgical care of junior athletes and families with an emphasis on Sports injuries.

My career has been blessed with working with the California legislature as a member of (then) Senator Jack Scott’s Health advisory team and many years working with the California Chiropractic Association as the local state representative and director of the San Gabriel Valley district.

Included in my years was the pleasure of teaching Sports Medicine to students of Temple City High School for 15 years, introducing many of them to careers in the health care field. In addition, I authored 300 articles for the San Gabriel Valley News (Local paper) with alternative views on health care.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The largest challenge in my field, is gaining acceptance in the health care spectrum, having Medical physicians and and insurance carriers treat our profession as equals. There still exists a bias against chiropractic doctors as not being “real” even though our profession is over 100years old.

My personal challenge was balancing a health care office, teaching, and raising two daughters with my spouse. Her death in 2017 complicated my life as she also was the office manager.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Dr. Kenneth Martin – Chiropractor?
As a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) I do many things that help people without the use of drugs or surgery. There are many conditions that can be treated concurrently with a medical doctor, and some need to be referred to their care when needed. As a sports injury doctor, I do my best to make my athletes heal faster and teach them methods to not re-injure themselves. Having them educated is one of the best things people say I do, to KEEP them healthy.

The one thing that most of my patients like, is that I treat them like family. I have patients that I treated as children, now bring their children to my office for care. It is one of the most rewarding feelings.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in a small town, and we knew everybody. Some of my friends and I went through all 12 years of school together, and we still keep in touch through social media.

I was able to bike ride anywhere and I knew when to be home and never had to worry about how I was treated by others. I feel it is a shame that children today do not have that privilege.
