His undergraduate years were marked by both academic excellence and musical passion, as he performed as a trumpet player in the esteemed UCLA Marching Band. Continuing the pursuit of knowledge, Dr. Ganjian attended the UCI School of Medicine, where he excelled academically, earning several honors and scholarships, including the Regent’s Scholarship and the Basic Science Certificate of Excellence. Professional Development and Clinical Experience
Following medical school, Dr. Ganjian completed his residency in pediatrics at Harbor-UCLA in Los Angeles under the mentorship of Dr. Monica Sifuentes, before refining his expertise further with training at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY, under Dr. Matthew Kapklein’s guidance. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Turning Trauma into Triumph: The Tale of the Smiling Pediatrician
Dr. Ganjian’s life story is a unique blend of overcoming challenges with a smile—literally! At the tender age of eight, he encountered a rather unpleasant event when he was attacked, leading to dental trauma. With a smile that could only be described as “creatively rearranged,” Dr. Ganjian faced the world with a newfound shyness. Imagine a child whose grin looked like Picasso had a go at dental art!
But rather than allowing this “abstract smile” to define him, Dr. Ganjian decided that no dental disaster would stop him from flashing those teeth. With sheer determination and a hint of rebelliousness against self-doubt, he embraced his quirky grin, eventually winning the coveted “Best Smile” award in high school. That’s right—he took a page out of the book titled “Smile Like You Mean It” and aced it!
So, what do you do when life hands you a dental curveball? You decide to help children bounce back from their own adversities and illnesses. Dr. Ganjian’s personal experience of overcoming a childhood mishap fueled his passion for pediatrics, providing him with a treasure trove of empathy and an understanding that sometimes a smile is the best medicine (even if it’s a slightly crooked one).
Now, Dr. Ganjian spends his days bringing joy and healing to young patients, all while proving that resilience is just another word for turning “oops” into “aha.” His journey from dental chaos to renowned pediatrician is a story that reminds us to embrace life’s imperfections, and maybe even laugh a little along the way. Who knew that a crooked smile could lead to a career in pediatrics? Well, now we do!
