Hi Sergio, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?

My journey into the music industry started when I was a kid visiting my grandma in Mexico City. Back then, I was mainly exposed to hip-hop, merengue, and cumbia. But one day at a local city fair, I heard electronic music for the first time—it completely shifted my perspective. That sound stuck with me, even though access to music and the internet was limited at the time.

Fast forward to when I was 25, during the peak of the EDM era, I bought my first ticket to a club event in Las Vegas to see my favorite artist. Coming from a Christian background, I had never really been exposed to nightlife or club culture, so that experience was eye-opening. I saw people from all types of life coming together through music—it was pure joy and connection. That moment sparked a deep passion in me for the industry.

Although I had a full-time career and a family to provide for, I stayed close to the music world through side projects—particularly tour management gigs in Las Vegas. Over the years, I was fortunate to receive mentorship from internationally respected DJs and their teams. I made it a mission to shift from being a fan to becoming someone recognized within the industry.

That led to the creation of my brand, BigSurgz, and eventually in early 2025, I founded Big Thangs Management Group. My goal wasn’t to just become another booking agency or promoter—I wanted to build a company that focuses on curating memorable experiences for fans. Our motto is “We create experiences, not just press play.” In an industry that’s often saturated, I believe it’s important that every artist on our roster leaves a lasting impression with their audience.

Today, I’m proud to manage a growing roster of eight talented artists. We’re focused not just on growth, but on impact—whether it’s at one of our shows or through our strategic artist development. Our next major event is a daytime party on June 29th in Hollywood, and we’re excited to continue building something meaningful for the community and our artists.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest opportunities have been where I was actually taken seriously compared to being a fan of my favorite artist. A lot of times a struggle was where I was around individuals that are high spenders while I was living paycheck to paycheck, because my family is always my priority and making sure that all the essentials are taken care of I wasn’t able to dress or spend like those individuals.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in providing opportunities to individuals who want to bring true creativity to a saturated industry—whether through their music or the experiences they create. One of our key initiatives is Mi Gente Academy & Community, a space where emerging artists collaborate, learn from one another, and work closely with our team to develop and grow their brand.

Through our strong industry relationships, we’ve been able to secure bookings for our artists at some of the top venues in Southern California. We also actively support them in releasing music through major labels, all while working toward the ultimate goal of seeing them perform on major festival stages.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Out of respect for their privacy and stature in the industry, I won’t name-drop, but I can confidently say I’ve been fortunate to receive mentorship from both legendary, globally recognized figures and some of today’s hottest rising artists. Their guidance has played a major role in shaping my journey.

When it comes to Big Thangs Management Group, as much as I take pride in building and running this business, none of it would be possible without my incredible team. Each member brings unique value and plays a vital role in keeping things moving efficiently while ensuring our artists are supported at the highest level.

One of my key team members, DJ Cast, generously volunteers his time to lead our Mi Gente Academy & Community, helping guide and develop the next generation of DJs. He also oversees the production and timely release of our radio episodes and contributes to the development of other creatives within our network.
