Exploring Life & Business with Ashley Guzman of Piel Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Guzman.

Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I actually started off by wanting to be a nurse. I had no idea what kind of nurse I wanted to be but I just wanted to be in that field because of how much it caught my interest. In my senior year of high school, I was taking some ROP medical classes and towards the end of my senior year I was a CNA (certified nurse assistant). During that time I had to get my hours and was assisting in a nursing home, feeding, cleaning, changing, and caring for the elderly. I’m not going to lie, but doing that gave me such a different perspective on what I wanted to do in my future. I still ending up pursuing nursing up to my 1st semester in college but half way through that semester I realized that wasn’t for me. I ended up switching my major to business and finished college with my business degree. After graduating I had no idea what I wanted to do, but during that time I was so into clothes that I opened an online clothing store called “AGAPÉ”. I would source my own manufactures for the style of clothes I wanted and would even make my own designs. But after around 1-2 years of doing that I felt that it got over saturated, with everyone wanting to make a clothing brand so I started thinking of what else I should venture in. I’ve always been fascinated by the way skin reflects so much about our overall health—and how the right products and treatments can truly transform not just how someone looks, but how they feel, so I started doing research on what type of industry that would fall in. The top categories that popped up was a dermatologist and esthetician. That’s when I started doing more research on what an esthetician was because I had no idea what that was, I seriously thought people just applied to do facials haha. While I didn’t personally struggle with acne, I found myself drawn to understanding it on a deeper level because I saw how much it impacted people’s confidence and daily life. That curiosity led me to become a licensed esthetician and eventually a certified Face Reality Acne Expert. I wanted to offer real solutions and guidance to those who were overwhelmed by trial-and-error approaches. I worked at a med spa right after getting my esthetician license and was there for about 4 years. I would take many courses outside of work and enhance my knowledge in skin/skincare. While working at the med spa I started noticing what it was lacking and what I would do different for my clients. I realized how many people felt lost in their skincare routines—confused by marketing, overwhelmed by products, and unsure of what their skin really needed. That’s what inspired me to create Piel Studio: a space dedicated to real results, education, and personalized care. I specialize in corrective facials, anti-aging treatments, acne treatments, pigmentation, and helping clients navigate their unique skin journeys with education and intention. There’s nothing more fulfilling than watching someone’s confidence grow as their skin transforms.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not entirely but every challenge has helped shape who I am as an esthetician and business owner. When I first started, there was a lot to learn beyond just skincare, like how to run a business, build client trust, and create a brand that truly reflects my values. In the beginning, it was overwhelming wearing all the hats: service provider, marketer, receptionist, and everything in between. There were slow seasons, self-doubt, and moments where I questioned if I was doing enough. One of the biggest challenges was learning to trust the process. Skin takes time to heal, businesses takes time to grow, and success doesn’t happen overnight. But with each client transformation, each positive review, and each personal win (big or small) I gained more confidence in my purpose and path. Looking back, I’m grateful for the struggles. They taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of staying grounded in my “why.” This journey has made me not only a better esthetician but a more intentional and compassionate person overall.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Piel Studio?
Piel Studio is a skin-focused facial studio dedicated to helping clients achieve real, lasting skin health. Founded on the belief that skincare should be both results-driven and deeply personal, Piel Studio is a space where education, intention, and care come first. I specialize in corrective facials, acne treatments, and barrier repair, working with clients one-on-one to create customized plans that support their unique skin needs. As a certified Face Reality Acne Expert and licensed esthetician, I take a clinical-meets-compassionate approach that’s rooted in both science and support. Whether someone is dealing with acne, pigmentation, sensitivity, or just wants to take better care of their skin, I focus on effective treatments that respect the skin barrier and avoid the “one-size-fits-all” mindset. What sets Piel Studio apart is the level of trust and transparency I build with my clients. There’s no upselling or unrealistic promises—just honest care, consistent progress, and a strong emphasis on skin education. I want clients to not only see results, but understand how and why they’re happening. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the community I’m building. My goal is to create a space where people feel safe, seen, and supported. Whether they’re walking in for their first facial or coming back month after month. Piel Studio is more than just skincare and treatments—it’s empowerment through knowledge, connection, and consistent care.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor and building a strong network has been such a valuable part of my journey, but it didn’t happen overnight. My biggest piece of advice is to be intentional and genuine. Don’t just seek out people with big followings or impressive titles, look for individuals whose value work ethic and energy that aligns with yours. For me, mentorship has often come from unexpected places such as coworkers, fellow professionals in online communities, or educators in training programs. Reaching out with thoughtful questions, being open to learning, and showing appreciation goes a long way. When it comes to networking, show up. Attend industry events, webinars, workshops, or even local pop-ups where you can meet others in beauty and wellness. But also don’t be afraid to start online. Instagram has been a huge tool for me. I’ve connected with other estheticians, educators, and brand reps just by engaging authentically: commenting, sharing, supporting, and DMing when something truly resonates. What’s worked best for me is staying curious, being open to collaboration, and remembering that real relationships take time to build. Support others without expectation, and the right connections will naturally follow.
