Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Koury.
Hi Kim, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, surrounded by music, food, and the hustle of entrepreneurship. My father owned a chain of record stores, and my uncle and grandfather ran bars and restaurants, so I was immersed in entertainment and hospitality from an early age. That energy stuck with me.
After graduating with a degree in communications and theater, I headed west—first landing in Las Vegas, where fate (and a little sorority sisterhood magic) introduced me to my first mentor, rock ‘n’ roll PR queen Laura Herlovich of PR Plus. Once we discovered we were both Chi Omegas—and sealed it with the secret handshake—she took me under her wing and introduced me to the fast-paced world of entertainment publicity.
By 22, I was representing Vegas legends like Siegfried & Roy, the Chippendales, Blue Man Group, and icons like James Brown, Al Jarreau, and Gladys Knight. It was a whirlwind education in PR—and I was hooked.
In 2002, I made my way to Los Angeles, continuing to build my experience in music publicity and working with renowned venues like the Key Club, Belasco, and the Henry Fonda Theater. But after a few years, I knew I wanted to create something of my own. In 2006, I launched Spin PR Group—a passion project turned full-service public relations, marketing, and event production agency based in Santa Monica.
Since then, Spin has grown into one of LA’s premier boutique agencies. We’ve had the privilege of working with high-profile clients like the Santa Monica Pier, Fairmont Miramar, Santa Monica Place, T-Mobile, Capitol One Café, The Lobster, Michael’s Restaurant, and many more. We’re especially proud of our work with nonprofits like Heal the Bay, Project Angel Food, and the Westside Food Bank—supporting causes that matter through events and storytelling.
In addition to PR and marketing, we’ve produced hundreds of community-driven events and festivals that bring people together around music, food, and fun—like Santa Monica Pride on the Promenade, OFF THE HOOK Seafood Festival, MAINopoly: A Taste of Main Street, Rosé on Rose Wine Fest, and the SANTA Monica Pub Crawl, which has raised enough funds to provide over half a million meals to those in need each year.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course, it hasn’t been a cakewalk—especially as a woman running her own business in an industry that, at times, hasn’t always made space for us at the table. I’ve had to fight to be taken seriously, earn trust, and prove myself over and over again. But through resilience, creativity, and staying true to my mission of building community through unforgettable experiences, Spin has continued to thrive.
Looking back, every challenge helped shape me into the leader I am today. And I’m just getting started.
