Daily Inspiration: Meet Jonathan Tan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Tan.

Hi Jonathan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always kinda played around with creating content. Back when I was a teenager, I actually made YouTube videos. Growing up surrounded by social media, anyone could make content. For me, if I had an idea, the first thing I would think of is to grab my phone and make something out of it. That’s always been me.

I was pretty passionate about my YouTube journey until finals hit me, and then the pandemic came along. What started as a short break since 2019 to focus on studies somehow became a long, unintentional pause.

Fast forward to last year, I’m now in uni, and I felt like I had some unfinished business. Going back to YouTube didn’t feel like “me” anymore, but creating short-form videos on TikTok did. So I thought, you know what, why not just start posting? I genuinely love creating. If people watch, that’s great. If not, it’s still something I do for myself.

Now I’m just creating, learning as I go, and figuring things out. I’m not sure if I’ve fully found “my thing” yet, but maybe this has been it all along. We’ll see what the journey brings to me

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think it has been. I constantly feel like I need to evolve as a content creator, as this industry is way too saturated. But at the same time, I just wanna create what feels like me, what I feel like today, what do I wanna share with the world today. But as it’s getting serious, I sort of start setting goals, and not reaching those goals yet can be quite demotivating sometimes, cause I started to see the value of what I’m doing, what it can brings me. But I truly feel like sometimes when I am too focused on the goal, the more demotivated and less authentic I feel when creating, and forget the reason why I started. And of course, comparison is the thief of joy. I’m trying my best not to, but it’s always easier said than done

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m currently still a college student, about to graduate the end of this year , and not that proud to say that I’m still figuring out life. I also just started pursuing modelling on the side, not much experience yet so we’ll see

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I wish I read more, but I’m not really a reader. I do read a lot of articles that I find interesting in, but not particularly a specific topic. I listen to music, it always helps me focus better. Been focusing a lot in fitness for the past year, not sure if that’s relevant to that question, but started as a hobby is becoming part of my lifestyle right now. Gym membership might be the best thing I’ve given myself for the past year.
