Conversations with Emily Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Phillips

Hi Emily, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my modeling journey at 16 when I was scouted, but I chose to freelance instead, seeking opportunities that aligned with my career goals. At 17, I had the incredible opportunity to model internationally in Bali. At 20, I met the amazing designer Delayne Dixon, and working with her completely transformed my confidence. Her beautifully crafted designs and unwavering support made all the difference. Since then, I’ve had the honor of walking in New York Fashion Week with her and being featured in publications like Harper’s Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, and other international magazines.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, it’s been a hard journey. I’m only 5’4”, and the industry is extremely tough, especially for petite models. There were countless times I was overlooked or told I didn’t fit the traditional mold. Freelancing also meant navigating everything on my own — from finding opportunities to managing contracts. But those challenges only pushed me to work harder and prove that confidence and presence can speak louder than height. Meeting designers like Delayne Dixon, who genuinely celebrate individuality, made all the difference. Every setback taught me resilience, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love shooting editorial — the crazier and weirder, the better! I’m known for bringing bold concepts to life and collaborating with designers to create something unique. What excites me most is exploring creative, unconventional shoots that push boundaries.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising about me is that I’m also an ER nurse! Balancing the fast-paced world of modeling with the demands of emergency nursing has been challenging but incredibly rewarding. It’s a unique combination that keeps me grounded and constantly learning.
