Today we’d like to introduce you to Jojo Nessim
Hi Jojo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Rainbow Spaces without a perfect plan, just a strong feeling that I had something worth sharing. I had been playing around with sun catchers and saw how much joy and light they could bring into a room — and something about that stuck with me. I didn’t know exactly what it would become, but I felt like there was potential in it.
I’ve never really followed a traditional path. I left college after two years because it just didn’t feel right for me. Instead, I taught myself everything I could — design, marketing, how to run a business — through YouTube, lots of trial and error, and late nights figuring it out as I went. Rainbow Spaces was my second attempt at starting something of my own, and it came with a lot of challenges, but also so many moments of growth.
Now, I’ve grown from my family’s home into my own office in LA, and the brand has evolved in ways I’m really proud of — with new designs, characters, and ideas that feel more personal than ever. It’s been a lot of work, but it’s also been really rewarding to build something from scratch that actually means something to people.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road — there have been a lot of learning curves. When you’re running a small business, especially in the beginning, you’re wearing every single hat. I had to figure out everything from money management and branding to inventory and logistics, often all at once.
There were moments where I overbought inventory that didn’t move, or I priced things in a way that wasn’t sustainable. Learning how to manage cash flow has been one of the biggest challenges — especially when you’re trying to grow but also need to be careful with every dollar.
Customer service was another thing I had to figure out quickly. When someone’s order doesn’t show up or something breaks in transit, it’s on me to make it right — and doing that with care and consistency while juggling everything else is tough.
Branding was also a process. I knew what I wanted it to feel like, but translating that into visuals, messaging, and a consistent vibe took time. There’s a lot of trial and error behind the scenes that people don’t always see. But each challenge taught me something, and I feel like the brand is stronger because of those struggles.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rainbow Spaces?
Rainbow Spaces is a sun catcher brand — we create pieces that catch sunlight and transform it into rainbows. A sun catcher is either a crystal ornament or a special window sticker made with prismatic film. When sunlight hits just right, it fills the room with little rainbows that shift and dance throughout the day. It’s a small, beautiful way to change the energy in a space.
We’re known for our sun catchers because they offer more than just decoration — they create moments. Whether it’s the way the rainbows land on your walls or how they move with the light, there’s something magical and calming about them. They’re subtle, but powerful.
What sets us apart is the intention behind everything we make. Each design is thoughtfully created to bring more light, color, and joy into everyday life. It’s not just about how it looks — it’s about how it feels.
If there’s one thing I want readers to know, it’s that Rainbow Spaces is rooted in care — in the details, the energy, and the experience. It’s about making your space more personal, one rainbow at a time.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think risk-taking is a really important part of growth — especially when you’re building something on your own. That said, I’ve never been the “jump with no parachute” type. I believe in taking risks, but I also believe in having a backup plan, or at least a soft landing if things don’t go as expected.
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was deciding to leave college and go all-in on building something of my own. I didn’t have a full business plan or investors — just a vision and a strong feeling that I needed to try. Starting Rainbow Spaces was also a big risk. I was investing time, energy, and money into something I wasn’t sure people would connect with. But I also gave myself room to pivot if it didn’t work — I told myself that even if I failed, I’d learn something valuable.
To me, risk doesn’t mean being reckless — it means trusting yourself enough to take a chance, while also being smart about how you do it. Some of the most meaningful things in my life have come from risks that didn’t have guaranteed outcomes. And I think that’s where the growth happens — in those in-between moments where you’re unsure, but you go for it anyway.
