Rising Stars: Meet David Francis of Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Francis

Hi David, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My gift of writing comes from my mother. To the outside world, I’m known as a celebrity bodyguard to some of the world’s most elite entertainers, but my hidden gem has always been writing. Due to my worldwide travels with various clients, it’s only natural that I write about everyday life situations that I’ve experienced around the globe. I graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Liberal Studies. During my four years at ISU, most of my elective courses were creative writing and directing. I excelled in these classes because it allowed me use my imagination through the power of the pen. I went on to pursue a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Webster University. With two degrees and the emotional support of my wife and our two kids, I began my aggressive pursuit of happiness through entrepreneurship. I have no specific genre I write about. My books include short stories, poems, and essays, typically no more than 25 pages long, but that’s merely a glimpse into my literary series titled, “Books Of David,” which can be found at booksofdavid.com. Currently, I’m working on my fifteenth script. I’ve had literary agents interested in my writing, but I choose to remain independent until the right one comes along.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road traveled as a bodyguard is never truly “smooth”, but I’m good at what I do and it’s very lucrative. Sometimes I have very long days and sleepless nights, while keeping my head on the swivel. The tradeoff are perks like flying around the world on many of my client’s private jets, five star hotels, and the best of foods, but there is a heavy price I pay personally. I’ve missed our son’s college football games, I can be gone several months at a time, and although I was able to make it to our daughter’s graduation, I missed other important events of hers. Thank God I have an understanding wife who’s also an entrepreneur and very supportive of my dreams and aspirations.
My gift in writing has opened many doors for me in an industry that I love – show business.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I own and operate several businesses. One of my most successful is my executive protection agency – Bodyguard Consultant Services, Inc (BCS). I’m most proud of being able to sustain in this business through tough times. What sets us apart from other executive protection agencies is that we only recruit the best. Those who have a special skill set; preferably a Martial Arts and self-defense background. I was recruited into the business because of a number of special skill sets that I have. Overall, my athleticism and size is what got me noticed, but it was my attention to detail, spatial awareness, social understanding, and professionalism that made me more sought after.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
As a native of “The Windy City”, the main thing I like about Los Angeles is the weather; it’s amazing! In addition, the social scene and entertainment opportunities makes it easy to grow as an entrepreneur.

The traffic is a beast!
