Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but it’s been a meaningful one. Creating the Dixie Hollywood Hotel was a labor of love, born out of tragedy. My sister and I built it as a tribute to our older sister, Dixie, who was taken from us by a drunk driver. Turning that heartbreak into something beautiful was both healing and incredibly difficult.
Although we were born and raised in the hospitality industry, running this hotel came with its own set of challenges. There were financial pressures, operational hurdles, and the constant push to maintain high standards in an ever-evolving market. As women of color in a male-dominated space, we often had to work twice as hard to be taken seriously. But through it all, our purpose kept us grounded—to create a space that honors Dixie and welcomes people from all over the world. That mission gave us the strength to keep going, even when things got tough.

But our ability to stay grounded, adapt, and keep pushing forward—especially while carrying the emotional weight of honoring our sister’s memory—is what’s kept us going.
