Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Austin
Hi Alyssa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in the San Fernando Valley. I started acting at a very young age. Wanting to spend more time with my mother and older sister I would memorize lines by listening. I tagged along to a few auditions and booked a USC short film titled, Taste of Paradise. I had so much fun on set.
Acting will always be my first love. Acting and Storytelling go hand in hand. Since I was a child I was always the kid at the sleepovers that had the scary stories memorized and ready to go, along with the occasional riddle. We didn’t have cell phones back then so as children we had to entertain ourselves, and story telling was one of my favorite passed times.
Acting led me to writing. Growing up my mother wrote screenplays and I was always fascinated with the written word. How you can create entire worlds with the right word combinations. It wasn’t till my 30’s that I completed my first screenplay.
With having three screenplays completed, I find myself moving into the producers chair so I can actually see my projects get made. I’m working on a project right now and I’m looking forward to getting to share it with the world.
In life I find that sometimes when you think you have reached the summit you were aiming for, it’s actually the launching pad for your next ascention. Keep climbing.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth sailing, well, not exactly. Life is about rolling with the punches. I think we all hit road blocks from time to time but are they really road blocks or detours. Detours can be wonderful, and offer new perspective on a subject or situation.
As an Actor the goal is to be prepared, because so much is out of your hands. Be on time and know your lines so you are no the issue on set. A lot of actor road blocks can be avoided by doing those two things , and mind your own business on set.
As a Writer. I guess you could say writer block, however, when I hit this point I take a break from writing. My writing will be stale if I try to force it, so I come back to a story when I feel ready to work on it again. Some of my scripts are written faster than others.
As a Producer, everyday has a process of struggles. In the morning everything could be fine by the end of the day everything could be on the floor. Being a producer is great because I love working with other creatives. I am also very passionate about my writing so it’s easy to stay passionate about producing my projects because I truly care about what we are creating.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Growing up I was a child actress. The title I would be most known for is a Steve Martin film titled, A Simple Twist of Fate.
I specialize in writing female lead based screenplays. My indie feature production company produces these features. We are currently working on producing our first feature film.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Performing for others.
