Life & Work with Karen Sieger of Placentia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Sieger

Hi Karen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is one of passion, a bit of serendipity, and a lot of lists. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved organizing events—whether it was a wedding, birthday party, bridal or baby showers, or just a casual dinner with friends, I was the one who dove headfirst into the details. But it wasn’t until 2016, at my sister’s wedding, that everything clicked.

I had stepped in to help her plan, and one of the vendors was genuinely shocked when she learned that I wasn’t a professional planner. That moment planted a seed. After 25 years in real estate, where I honed my organizational skills and developed a love for working closely with people, I realized it was time to take the leap into something I’d always dreamed of doing.

I spent a summer shadowing that same vendor, learning all I could about the wedding industry. Then, I attended Planner Life Academy to refine my skills and gain a solid foundation. Within months, I executed my first wedding, and Blissfully Styled Events was born. Since then, I’ve poured my heart into creating a planning experience that’s as enjoyable for my couples as the event itself.

Every day, I feel so grateful to be doing what I love—turning visions into reality, obsessing over timelines, and making sure every last chair is perfectly straight. It’s been a journey fueled by passion and purpose, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth, but every bump in the road has been a lesson in disguise. When I first started, I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly bookings came in. I think it was a mix of my life experience, solid education, and my natural knack for connecting with people—it made building relationships feel effortless! I was thrilled to see couples resonating with my approach and trusting me with their big day. But in those early days, I quickly learned the hard way about the dangers of overbooking. I wanted to say “yes” to everyone, but that left me stretched too thin and unable to give each couple – or myself – the attention they deserved.

From there, I realized I couldn’t do it all on my own and started growing a team—a challenge in itself. Finding people who shared my passion for precision and positivity wasn’t easy, but building a group that aligns with my vision has been so rewarding.

Then, like so many others in this industry, the pandemic hit. It was a whirlwind of postponements, cancellations, and pivoting to help couples navigate the unknown. I leaned into creativity and flexibility, reimagining what weddings could look like and finding ways to make even the most scaled-back celebrations feel magical. I also took some time to rebrand and create even better systems and processes to serve our couples at an even higher level. Coming out of that period and returning to profitability has been a rough road, but I am stronger in my belief in the resilience of love and the power of a well-planned event.

Through it all—the long hours, the growing pains, and even the uncertainty of a global pandemic—I can honestly say I still love every minute. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing a couple light up on their wedding day, knowing all the hard work was worth it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Blissfully Styled Events, we specialize in event planning and design, with a primary focus on weddings. Our mission is to create a holistic, streamlined, and supportive planning process that allows couples to fully immerse themselves in their engagement and wedding day. For us, it’s not just about crafting a beautiful event—it’s about ensuring the entire journey is smooth, meaningful, and filled with joy. We aim to keep the focus where it belongs: on their love story, their future marriage, and the relationships that matter most.

I am known for being meticulous with details, ensuring every aspect of the planning process and wedding day is elevated and seamless. Beyond that, I am a fearless advocate for our couples, always ready to stand up for their vision while maintaining a positive outlook. Even when wedding-day hiccups arise, I am always quick to find the silver lining and keep things moving forward with grace.

What sets me apart from other planners is my background. My career in real estate gave me a strong foundation for managing budgets, navigating contracts, and guiding people through significant, often stressful life transitions. But more than that, I’ve always been fascinated by love stories and happy beginnings. I approach weddings with a deep sense of purpose—not just to make the day look stunning but to ensure it feels deeply personal and enjoyable for our couples.

I’m most proud of the fact that I had the courage to leave a stable career to pursue my passion. Taking that leap was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and now I wake up every day genuinely fulfilled by the work I do. Helping couples celebrate their love in a way that feels authentic and joyful is the greatest privilege, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

What does success mean to you?
For me, success is about balance, fulfillment, and making a positive impact. It’s being able to wake up every day and do what I genuinely love—helping couples create unforgettable memories—while contributing to support our lifestyle.

It’s also about supporting my team and helping them grow. Seeing the people I work with thrive, develop their talents, and share in the joy of creating incredible events is deeply rewarding.

Success is knowing that the work I do brings joy and meaning to others while creating opportunities for growth—for my clients, my team, and myself. When I can make a difference in my clients’ lives, help my team succeed, and still have time to cherish moments at home, that’s when I know I’m truly succeeding.
