Life & Work with Aricka J of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aricka J

Hi Aricka, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Boston, I’ve had a passion for music since childhood. Because of my unwavering passion, despite the ups and downs of being an independent music artist, I have stayed persistent in working to create and release music that resonates with people who enjoy quality.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenge as an independent music artist is when you don’t have a corporate machine behind you. No matter now great my music is, it’s difficult to get it to the masses.

Furthermore, greatness is never a one person show and it has not been easy getting the right team in place. It has given my path unforeseen turns and uphill battles on my musical journey. Right now, it all falls on me however I will continue to pursue because it is what I love to do.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write, produce, and perform my own work. Being an independent artist as well as label owner, I’m constantly trying to balance the business side of things along with the creative process. The business can take away from the time I have to create, which is my first love, but it’s called the music “business” for a reason.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Absolutely! Music heals! Most importantly, it has taught me that the most dependable revenue stream you can have is to bet on yourself because in crisis, corporations and other businesses will do what is best for them.
