Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Yashar
Hi Alexandra , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my career as an occupational therapist with a deep desire to help people—particularly children—live their fullest lives. I graduated from the University of Southern California with a Master of Arts in Occupational Therapy, and early on, I found myself drawn to sensory integration and holistic approaches to care. My specialization in sensory integration sparked my passion for helping kids regulate by strengthening their nervous systems, particularly through sensory and reflex integration. As I built my practice and worked on healing my own trauma through somatic work, I became incredibly passionate about body-based nervous system healing.
Today, I offer comprehensive, wraparound support to the children and adults I have the honor of working with. By integrating occupational therapy with somatics, I help clients build conscious, connected relationships with their bodies.
What excites me most is the opportunity to guide people on their journeys toward authentic self-discovery and healing. I believe that true magic happens when we align our bodies, minds, and hearts, and I look forward to continuing this work with every person I have the privilege of supporting.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t been smooth, and I’ve had my share of challenges. One of the biggest struggles I faced early on was defining my niche. As an occupational therapist, I was drawn to a variety of different aspects of care, but I often felt pulled in many directions, trying to figure out how to integrate my skills and passions in a way that felt truly aligned. When I found somatic work and began my healing journey, I knew that I wanted to integrate somatics into my practice and expand into working with adults in a healing context. I decided to create two branches of my practice—one focusing on pediatrics, encompassing my work as an OT, and the other focusing on my work as a somatic practitioner treating adults.
When I started my practice, I knew I wanted to work holistically, but it took time to pinpoint the exact intersection of my interests—sensory integration, somatics, and family-centered care. I also struggled with how to merge these diverse areas into a cohesive practice that felt authentic to me and would best serve my clients. It took a lot of trial and error, reflection, and professional development to get to a place where I felt confident in what I offer and how I present it.
This aspect of my journey taught me to listen more closely to both myself and the needs of my clients. Now that I’ve found my niche, I’m able to fully embrace my passion for helping children, families, and adults build a more connected relationship with their bodies and live their fullest lives.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My practice is built on a deep commitment to holistic, client-centered care. I specialize in integrating occupational therapy with somatic practices, creating a unique approach that supports both children and adults in cultivating a conscious, connected relationship with their bodies. My work is grounded in sensory integration, reflex integration, and somatic healing.
For children, my focus is on supporting regulation, sensory processing, and reaching developmental milestones, while also offering guidance to parents on how to create an environment that fosters their child’s regulation and developmental growth. For adults, I use body and nervous system based methods to heal trauma, strengthening your witness around painful and traumatic experiences in your childhood and life. I use trauma-informed somatic healing to help people step into their power and authenticity, living abundant lives. With my work with parents, this often translates into being a more embodied, present parent, which I believe is the greatest gift you could ever give your children. Somatic sessions with me are inner- child and bodywork focused. We also work on reprogramming your limiting beliefs so that you can step fully into your limitless life, clearing stuck emotions and energy so that you can live in true, abundant wellness.
What sets me apart in my work with adults is that I empower my clients with the tools they need to understand and heal their bodies, minds, and hearts. In my work with kids, my approach is family-centered, meaning I look at the broader picture, offering wraparound care that supports the entire family system. This approach is incredibly effective in creating lasting change.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the feedback I receive from clients who have experienced profound shifts in their lives—whether it’s a child overcoming sensory challenges or an adult experiencing profound shifts and breakthroughs in their lives. The work I do truly changes lives, and seeing that transformation is what drives me.
I want readers to know that my approach is centered on creating a deeper connection to yourself, and empowering you to live your most authentic and joyful life. If you’re looking for a compassionate, integrative approach to healing, I’m here to guide you through that journey.
Any big plans?
I’m looking into becoming trained in equine therapy, and continuing to grow my somatic expertise. I’m exploring offering healing with horses as part of somatic healing sessions in the future; on my own healing journey, horses have mirrored to me exactly what I need to see. I would also love to offer family constellations therapy with horses, integrating somatic work in the constellations as well in the future!
