Today we’d like to introduce you to Noemi Vargas
Hi Noemi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was 15, I saw my first Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on TV. The extravagant and inventive creations the models wore, the strength and confidence the models exuded with every step on the runway was something I was in complete awe about. From that moment I knew modeling was something I wanted to explore. Some 5 years later, I took the leap and started doing photoshoots with local photographers. Considering my quiet and reserved demeanor, it was a challenge to fully open up. However, with each shoot I grew to explore new and different ideas to bring forth excellent photos and ultimately to have fun in the process.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road!! Something I had the most difficulty with modeling was finding my own identity in the modeling/fashion world. Up until several years ago, the standard model had to be younger than 25, taller than 5’9” and maintain certain measurements. Your every day woman doesn’t look like that. I don’t look like that. So when I started this journey, it was tough even getting signed to an agency in Los Angeles due to this “standard.” This has put a damper in modeling and unfortunately caused me to hit pause for a few years. I’m happy to see the industry changing for the better, to see representation of all ages and sizes. Now, it’s less about a size and more about an individual’s ingenuity and authenticity. Over the last 2 years, I have focused more on making connections with likeminded people who value creativity and art, people who want to tell a story.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a freelance model in print, art and entertainment. I specialize in fashion, lingerie/swimsuit and portrait modeling. I’m most known for lingerie or boudoir work. Don’t get me wrong, I love lingerie. Something about getting photographed in a lacy set that just makes me feel so powerful. And I enjoy channeling that through modeling. However, it is something I want to step away from for the time being. I’d love to explore more with fashion and styles. What I’m most proud of is landing my first publication and cover girl in the same magazine, Artell’s! A dream come true. A big shout out to Edsger for helping make this happen. Also, I’m proud of the growth I’ve made. I’ve had the privilege of working with different photographers, each with their own unique vision. Because of this, it’s allowed me to channel variations of myself I would not have otherwise thought about. Modeling and photography truly is an art form.
What does success mean to you?
I define success by doing what you love without any hindrance, and sharing your skills and talents with those that truly appreciate it.
