Today we’d like to introduce you to Chae’ Jones
Hi Chae’, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always been a dreamer. I grew up in a small town and attended a school no drama department where sports were more important than cultivating the arts. I’ve never fit into a box, no matter how many times someone has tried to put me there. I found a home in watching television, movies and reading books. I discovered stories and worlds for the first time that brought me comfort. There are a lot of people who will tell you who they think you are. What they think you are capable of. I’ve spent my life not being what people expected. I became interested in the entertainment industry because I fell in love with the art of storytelling. I wanted to be a part of that art, and share in telling those stories to help the next young person in the same way that it had helped me. I came out to California to pursue my dreams and my dreams are still the same. They are also additional dreams that evolved the way I can also reach them.
“Ancient Warriors: Legacies of Olympus” is the live action version of a voice acting fan series that I had the privilege to be apart of. It is available to watch on YouTube. Entertainment Hosting and becoming a content creator were not things I saw myself doing until I tried. When I started creating content it was at first something to do during the pandemic to reconnect with my creativity. Yet something I really thrusted myself into doing once I discovered I really enjoyed it. I have always been the person who has diverse interests, and wanting to learn and do as much as I could. I am a big advocator for diversity and representation in media. The media that we consume does shape and impact how we perceive ourselves and no one person is a monolith. Every persons stories deserves to be told. Every persons stories deserves to be seen. I believe in the importance of cultural equity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think some things that are worth having might be harder or take longer to achieve. That’s how you know it’s worth it. This doesn’t go for everything in your life. Some are lucky and the road is smooth and for others it takes little detours and paths to get you to where you want to be. I think my struggle is a mix of feeling like I’m not as far as I should be or I’m not as lucky as someone else. Not everyone reaches growth or success the same way. It’s going to look different because it’s supposed to. You have to always keep that in mind. Being a creative is not for the faint of heart because you end up hearing the word “no” a lot. A lot of the time you constantly wonder if it’s all worth it. I believe that the world needs more dreamers. Reality will always be there looming but I know there’s a strength in daring to dream. The world needs dreamers and artists just as much as it needs doctors and builders though a lot of people don’t like to admit that part. There’s pressure to change yourself to fit into an idea of what being in this industry is meant to look like. I don’t want to let what I love change everything about me to continue to pursue it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an actress, entertainment host, and content creator. I’ve always known I wanted to be an actress since I was little. Being an entertainment host and content creator were not things I ever expected to be doing. And if I’m honest I fought the notion at first because it felt like I was giving up my dreams of acting. I wasn’t. I discovered new sides of myself that I got to pour into that feeds into my creativeness. I built my audience by being authentically and unapologetically me. I’ve always had diverse interests and I really get to foster all those aspects of myself with my content. It turns out that people really enjoy that. Creating a platform for myself that allows me to embrace all my interests is something I’m very proud of because for the longest time it didn’t seem like that could be possible.
Over the last few years, I’ve been able to moderate panels at Los Angeles Comic Con and Power Morphicon which have been surreal moments and incredible experiences. I truly love engaging in conversation that really delve deeper into topics that are really important to me.
The thing I’m most proud of is that I’m still here. Here going after my dreams, here discovering new additional dreams, and just here in life. My goal has always been to stay true to myself. Make you laugh when I can, educate you from time to time with knowledge about a show/movie you might have not known about.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’m currently working on my own podcast “The Media That Makes Us” where I interview those in the industry that have shaped a lot of ours lives with their contributions to media in all its forms and what shaped theirs to this point in their career. My goal is to have episodes out by Spring/Summer 2025.
I’m also planning to submit two panels at Los Angeles Comic Con 2025. My fourth year “Diversity Through Genres in Media” and a 20th Anniversary Movie Reunion panel(tba) Don’t want to jinx it but keep an eye out for the announcement closer to the con.
Something I had to learn and I hope is a reminder for everyone reading that it’s okay to take up space. It’s okay to be your biggest champion. Don’t be afraid to fail. You learn a lot from your success but you learn more from your failures. The things meant for you should never be given up on.
