Embarking on my business journey has been a beautiful reflection of my childhood memories and cultural traditions. Growing up in Mexico, I was surrounded by the magic of posadas, where my mother would craft the most incredible piñatas using skills passed down through our family. Even in high school, during creative competitions, I could feel those early seeds of entrepreneurship taking root.

Those early experiences, rich with family love and creativity, never really left me. Everything changed when a friend’s son desperately wanted a piñata of his favorite character. Even though it had been years since I’d made one, his enthusiasm sparked something in me. I was determined to create something special, so I started sketching, molding, and carefully wrapping tissue paper to bring his character to life.

The result was more than just a piñata—it was a turning point. Seeing the pure joy on that child’s face was like lighting a spark inside me. This was the moment my entrepreneurial journey truly began.

As I dove deeper into creating custom piñatas, each piece became a reflection of my passion and artistry. I chose the name Ollin, which means movement or evolution in Nahuatl, because it perfectly captures the spirit of my journey—always moving forward, always creating, always evolving.

From those first humble beginnings to the vibrant business I have today, every step has been filled with purpose and excitement. Ollin isn’t just a business—it’s a celebration of culture, creativity, and the incredible things that happen when you follow your heart.

As my business continues to grow, its name continues to reflect my journey. With each new creation, I’m reminded of how a simple idea can spark joy, ignite imagination, and inspire others to embrace their own unique path.

Crafting piñatas isn’t just a job—it’s an art that brings joy and magic to celebrations. The process is truly a labor of love, with each piñata requiring incredible attention to detail. From designing the figure to carefully shaping it and adding vibrant colors, every step is a creative journey.

Our early days were definitely challenging. We’d wake up before sunrise to set up at swap meets, hauling our entire inventory and carefully balancing it between show pieces and custom orders. Back then, social media was just barely starting and wasn’t the marketing tool it is today, so spreading the word about our unique piñatas was tough.

But we never gave up. My family’s support was my greatest strength, and the smiles of our customers kept us going. Opening our first storefront, “Ollin Fiesta,” was a huge milestone—a permanent home for our creations that lasted a decade. When we moved to Granada Hills and became “Ollin Party Store,” we were excited about the potential for growth.

Then the pandemic hit, bringing unprecedented challenges. But even during the hardest times, our customers’ loyalty shone through. Their word-of-mouth recommendations and continued support were our lifeline. We not only survived but grew stronger, proving that passion and community can overcome almost anything.

We’ve been impressed with Ollin Party Store, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Venturing into the world of artistry and entrepreneurship has been an amazing adventure, rooted in my lifelong love for creativity and design. What makes our piñatas special isn’t just their craftsmanship—it’s the heart we pour into every single piece. Unlike factory-made piñatas, we create each one by hand, without using molds, which means every piñata is totally unique. Whether you’re dreaming of a human-sized piñata or something truly massive, we’re here to make that vision come to life.
