Check Out Cyril Mahe’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cyril Mahe

Hi Cyril, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Cyril Mahe, originally from the suburbs of Paris, first found success in the music industry as a member of the platinum-record-winning group 2Bal2Neg in France. In 2007, he relocated to the United States, where he began his filmmaking career in New York City. Later, he moved to Los Angeles, where he gained acclaim as a filmmaker, directing and producing notable films such as Crossroads, Twice Upon a Time, and Entangled.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Without any prior knowledge of cameras or filmmaking, I taught myself everything from filming and editing to color grading and sound mixing. Initially, I didn’t speak English, so I learned the language as well. Another challenge was financing the films, which I overcame by finding like-minded individuals and collaborating with them.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a filmmaker specializing in narrative films, as well as a colorist and director of photography. In addition, I am known for my music career in France, where I achieved platinum status as a recording artist. This musical success has also helped fuel my filmmaking career.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
During the COVID-19 crisis, I learned that our time on earth is limited, so it’s crucial to pursue what you are truly passionate about. For me, that’s filmmaking. It gives me a sense of freedom and the hope that my work will continue to live on after I am gone.
