For Paul Madahan, relocating PaulDavid Salon from Fullerton to Orange marked a pivotal step toward realizing a long‑term vision rooted in growth and elevated client experience. After reimagining the new space from the ground up, Madahan created an environment that blends luxury with warmth, complemented by high‑end partnerships like Milbon and Balmain Hair Couture. The move has not only expanded the salon’s reach across Orange County and Los Angeles but also reinforced its foundation of trust and personalized care—positioning the brand for a future defined by both meaningful relationships and continued evolution.
Paul, moving PaulDavid Salon from Fullerton to Orange in 2024 was a major decision. What ultimately convinced you that relocating was the right step for the long‑term future of the salon?
Relocating was one of the most significant decisions we’ve made since opening PaulDavid Salon in 2016. Our Fullerton location gave us an incredible start, and we were fortunate to build a very loyal clientele there. We’re truly grateful for everything the community did for our business and for the support we received during those early years. However, after the pandemic, we began to notice a shift in the area, and the energy wasn’t quite the same as it had been when we first opened.
At the same time, we were thinking about the long-term vision for the salon. From the very beginning, my goal has always been to create an unforgettable experience for our clients—not just great hair, but a space where people feel welcomed, valued and cared for. As we evaluated our options, it became clear that relocating to a more visible and thriving area would allow us to continue growing while staying true to that vision.
Orange felt like the perfect fit. The community is vibrant, supportive of small businesses and aligned with the type of experience we want to create. Ultimately, the move wasn’t just about changing locations, it was about positioning the salon for the future while continuing to serve our clients in the best way possible.
After securing the new space, you undertook a five‑month renovation and completely rebuilt the interior. What was your vision for the new salon environment, and how did you want clients to feel when they walked into the redesigned space?
When we first saw the space, it had previously been a salon but it was very dated and hadn’t been updated in many years. However, the location and the size of the space were exactly what we were looking for, so we immediately saw its potential.
We decided to strip the whole thing down to the studs and completely reimagine the environment. My vision was to create a space that felt elevated and luxurious, but still warm and welcoming. The goal was for clients to walk in and immediately feel relaxed, comfortable and excited to be there.
Because our philosophy has always been about the experience, every detail was designed with that in mind—from the layout and lighting to the materials and overall atmosphere. We wanted the new salon to feel like a natural evolution of PaulDavid, a step forward that reflects the level of service and care we provide to every client.
Along with the new location, you elevated the salon’s brand partnerships by introducing luxury lines like Milbon and Balmain Hair Couture. How do those partnerships reflect the experience you want to deliver to your clients?
For me, the experience we provide goes beyond the haircut or color service itself. The products we use are an important part of how clients experience the salon.
When we moved into the new space, we wanted our brand partnerships to reflect the same level of quality and luxury that we were creating in the environment. Milbon and Balmain Hair Couture were a natural fit because both brands combine high performance with a truly elevated sensory experience—from the ingredients and technology to the textures and scents.
Our clients trust us not only with their hair but also with the products we recommend for maintaining their results at home. By partnering with brands that prioritize innovation, quality and luxury, we’re able to deliver a more complete experience that aligns with the values of PaulDavid Salon.
Since reopening in Orange, you’ve seen growth in clientele and increased visibility across Orange County and even into Los Angeles. What changes do you think contributed most to that momentum?
I think the growth has come from a combination of factors. First, the new location has given us much greater visibility and introduced us to new clients throughout Orange County and even Los Angeles.
But beyond that, the move allowed us to elevate every aspect of the business—the environment, the products and the overall experience we provide. At the same time, we’ve stayed deeply committed to the relationships we’ve built with our clients over the years.
What I’m most proud of is that many of the clients who first trusted me with their hair when I was working out of my kitchen more than a decade ago are still with me today. That loyalty speaks to the foundation we’ve built. When you combine that trust with a new space that truly reflects our vision, it naturally creates momentum.
Looking back at the journey since opening PaulDavid Salon in 2016, how has this relocation and reinvention helped position the business for its next chapter?
When I look back at the journey, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come. I started my career doing hair in my kitchen, and over time that small beginning grew into PaulDavid Salon. Through every stage of that journey, one thing has remained constant: my commitment to making every client feel welcomed, appreciated and at home.
The move to Orange represents the next evolution of that vision. It allowed us to create a space and an experience that truly reflects who we are as a brand today.
More importantly, it has positioned us for the future. We’re reaching new clients, expanding our presence in the region and continuing to grow while staying true to the values that built the salon in the first place. For me, this new chapter isn’t just about growth, it’s about continuing to build meaningful relationships with our clients and delivering the experience that has always been at the heart of PaulDavid Salon.
