Today we’d like to introduce you to Tayne Morano.
Tayne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a native New Yorker, moved to Los Angeles in 2017 for a change of pace and to please the curiosity of what opportunities might await me on the opposite coast. As a lifelong fan of comedy no time was wasted joining the attendance at the mecca of stand up comedy, The Comedy Store. After being absolutely spoiled by the talent I was able to see night after night I became eternally inspired. I told myself I was going to perform on those stages one day. My first time performing stand up was in August 2018 and by December 2018 I had been booked on a show at The Comedy Store. This was the first of many milestones, I am now fully committed to the growth as a performer, writer, and to be an all around influence of humor. Myself as well as many of live performers have had to adjust current landscape this year with all the venues being closed down indefinitely. I switched my focus from performing to writing, completing multiple levels of sketch writing courses at The Gorundlings Theatre & School. With the absence of live performances I began publishing some of my sketches online and this has been the silver lining. 3 consecutive videos went viral on my page accumulating around 10M views collectively. It’s been incredible for growing my following online and gives me a productive way to channel my energy that still supports my passion.
Has it been a smooth road
Absolutely not haha. A unique facet of stand up comedy is there is no way to teach it and its one of the few mediums that requires real time feed back from a live audience. Every audience is unique on its own and just as in life some audiences may not like you but without that adversity you don’t acquire the skill to perform in front of a vast range of different audiences. “Bombing” is a required part of earning your stripes as a comedian and will continue to happen throughout your career no matter how far along you are. Being familiar with failure ultimately strengthens you as a performer and builds the reflex to get back up, adjust, and grow. Stand up is NOT like riding a bike, its a game of numbers and repetition. You need to perform multiples sets a night at least 4/5 nights a week in order to workshop material and grow as a performer.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am currently focusing my energy on creating humor based content online and growing my following so I can facilitate the many the other creative endeavors I have set to accomplish. I specialize in humor. Whether I am performing live, writing sketch, or creating content the end goal is to make people laugh. I am most proud of nature of what I do. We live in a very serious world and If I can make someone laugh and distract them for just a moment, I am fulfilled.
What sets me apart from others is I am uniquely myself. No one else has lived my life or has overcome the adversities I have so no one else can possibly share my unique perspective. I am perpetually silly, often at times that may get me in trouble but I am committed to my craft.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The way in which we consume media is constantly evolving and at an increasingly growing rate. I plan to continually adapt and evolve along side the trends without letting off the gas pedal. Within the next 5-10 years I will expand the scale of my content. I plan on launching a podcast, an online sketch series, work as a writer, and be a regular at the clubs in town. I begin every morning focusing on all that I grateful for, at the forefront of that list is the opportunity to be part of an amazing industry. The ability to make someone laugh and the fact that another person would even think I’m funny is something I am grateful beyond words. I am simply a gloried idiot lucky enough to be here and peruse his dream. If the readers of VoyageLA have made it this far be kind to one another and share the value gratitude.
