Meet Oxana Aleksov of Oxana Alex Photography in Brentwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oxana Aleksov.

Oxana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was growing up, I realized that I did not have any pictures of myself in elementary school. My parents never took any and I always asked my family what I looked like as a child and baby. So, when I had my first child, Sasha, I became engulfed by the idea of taking pictures of every milestone in her life. To put it lightly, I became obsessed with learning photography. Because I really wanted to perfect my daughter’s photos, I started learning about editing, lighting, costumes, makeup, and anything else that you can think of regarding photography. I even studied in Canada! I perfected my own style of photography.

Eventually, my friends noticed my photography and they asked me to start taking photos of their children and families. Then my pregnant friends asked me to take their photos as well. It became an art for me. I realized I could really see myself doing this professionally. I started my business about four years ago and now, I find myself working with celebrities and fully booked for months in advance! I feel very lucky and blessed to have developed a business where I can do what I love while helping create ever lasting memories for families.

Has it been a smooth road?
Actually, the process of building my own business was not terrible. I was so passionate about photography that everything happened organically for me.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business focuses on the entirety of photography. We can provide props, stylists, customized clothing, and makeup for the shoots. We help our clients work the best locations for their needs. Primarily, my work is specialized in maternity, newborns, families and children. I feel that what can set me apart from others is my style. I prefer a very glowy look. It’s been described as ‘magical.’ I also must emphasize that a huge part of my job is making sure that the end result makes the clients happy. I’m not happy unless they are.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! The great thing about Los Angeles is that there are so many options. It’s also one of the best places to become recognized in any business. I would definitely recommend starting out here. Though, without passion, I’m not sure that anyone would succeed.
