Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucie Ayres.
Lucie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in the Czech Republic and raised in New York City. My passion for design started when I was about 6 years old. I rearranged furniture in my room constantly. My father was a carpenter and when I was a young teen, we collaborated on a custom wardrobe and I was hooked. I went on to study Design and Environmental Analysis at Cornell University, an interior design and facilities management program. After many years NOT doing interior design professionally, I decided to start 22 Interiors about 4 years ago. Best decision I ever made!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Never smooth, but always exciting. Struggles beyond setting up a business which in and of itself is a challenge, are determining who your team, your vendors, your network of skilled collaborators are – whether it’s the cabinet maker or the fabric sales person who just gets your vibe, you need your tribe.
Please tell us about 22 Interiors.
3 things that stand out the most about 22 Interiors: the first is that 95% of our clients have never used an Interior Designer before. They are busy professionals who know what they want and work hard to achieve it. The second is that we master layouts – whether it’s for a kitchen renovation or a small master bedroom – we are determined to find the best way to allocate the space. And finally, color – pops of it, or entire rooms saturated in it, 22 Interiors isn’t shy when it comes to color.
