Meet Julie Priceman of Six Degrees LA in Wilshire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Priceman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The food industry became my world in 2000 when I landed the position of SVP at Patina Group. Dining wasn’t nearly as sexy back then; no one talked about where their ingredients came from, there weren’t many celebrity chefs, no one styled their plates, took photos of their food, hashtagged eating at food trucks, and it definitely wasn’t the lifestyle decision it is today. Yet, I was immediately drawn into the business of kitchens and craftsmanship. I fell in love, I learned the industry inside and out, and I was damn good at it. Upon leaving Patina Group in 2006, I started my company by chance. The stars aligned, the timing was right and I made the leap. Everyone I had known from the restaurant world started calling me to work in their own restaurants, it was definitely 6 degrees of the business.

We had all grown together, we believed in each other, and we were in it to succeed together. Eleven years later, Six Degrees LA is a full-fledged branding agency, I’m still doing what I love every day with the people I love.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’d be lying if I said it has been completely smooth. This industry is a bumpy ride — trends change, tastes shift, and chefs are always finding a new creative territory to explore, but that’s also what I love about it. With so much growth, my biggest challenge is finding passionate, fearless team members to jump in with both feet and roll with the craziness as much as I do.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in Hospitality Branding and Marketing. We’re not an agency that dabbles in restaurant branding, we live it. What you can’t get anywhere else is our understanding of the relationship between operations and marketing. We’ve been in the trenches, and we work really closely with our clients, so my team has a unique and valuable perspective on how pertinent it is for the front and back of the house to be connected. And, of course, turn that knowledge into killer creative campaigns. Our clients see first-hand how we increase their bottom line, so that makes them very happy.

We are known for our honesty. Our clients don’t have time for BS and it’s our direct and honest approach that gets to the core of what they need quickly. Of course, that doesn’t mean we’re brash, we specialize in hospitality after all. We’re confident in what we do, but we also know that putting our clients at ease and making them feel taken care of is critical. Our projects should be just as fun for our clients as they are for us.

I’m most proud of our contagious spirit. Every team member that walks through our door, whether they’ve appreciated food at any level, develops a passion and joy for the industry and what it means to their own lives. They quickly develop a pride and true love for the industry that morphs into a piece of their identity that will always be there.
