Today we’d like to introduce you to Emiliana Guereca.
Emiliana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my business in 2003 as a staffing agency. I strictly staffed events, tradeshows, The Grammy’s, music festivals, Food festivals, premieres..etc
I soon realized most of my clients were asking me to produce part of their event and not paying me for it! They were paying me for staff but would ask for advice on producing the event. In 2007 I started to produce my own events. I create art festivals, concerts, street festivals, food and beer festivals…
At this point, I am only producing events and concepts I come up with. All of the events I currently produce have been created and produced by me, some have been horrible ideas, but for the most part, successful events are what I produce.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road. I am in a very male-dominated field. I have a small company there are three people in the office and 2 in the warehouse, but we produce these enormous events that are expensive.
I never wanted to work for someone and have been in business for myself for as long as I can remember. Some of my events have failed miserably, but I learned what not to do or who not hire along the way, who to trust is key in the event business, cause you are leaving so much up to the vendors, you have to trust that they will always work hard on your event, same goes for employees. Once an employee or vendor doesn’t think your event should go on, it’s time to part ways.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ez Event – what should we know?
Ez Event specializes in producing events in Los Angeles. We produce some of the biggest street festivals, food festivals. We are known for Cultural events like Salsa Fest, Waffles and Beer, Oktoberfest, Strawberry festival, food events are my favorite.
I am proud of producing events in LA that capture the California spirit. I’m not sure that there is a company out there lead by a latina that produces events year round that is not AEG.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I think some of my employees have been instrumental in growing my business. I hire employees that can think on their feet and definitely that are smarter than I am as that’s the only way to build a business. I don’t pretend to know everything, but I will hire people that are experts in their field.
