Meet Diego Vicentini of indiegocinema

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Vicentini.

Diego, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I never thought I would get into filmmaking. In college I studying Philosophy and Finance, but by the time I was graduating, I was irrevocably drawn towards the seventh art. I then began master’s in Filmmaking in Los Angeles, which I finished in September of 2018. To finish that Master’s program, I had to make a short film as my thesis.

Cut to now, and I am midway through an independent world-wide tour screening my short film “Simón” in many different countries after the trailer for it went viral. I have traveled to do Questions and Answers sessions following the screening of my short film in Panama, Mexico, Miami, Orlando, London, and Madrid, all while having sold out full theaters. I never dreamed this could happen with a student short film. Now I am in the process of writing the feature-length version of “Simón.”

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It took a while to get to film – I studied Philosophy through my college years, and only later did I discover my passion for film. But since then, it’s been a wonderful journey in submerging myself into the art form to learn and absorb as much as possible, somewhat to catch up for the years before my discovery.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about indiegocinema – what should we know?
I am a film writer and director. As of now, I am most proud of my short film “Simón,” which has been able to travel around the world, selling out theaters, and that I am donating the ticket sales proceeds from the screenings to different foundations that are helping those in Venezuela through the current humanitarian crisis that they are suffering there.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
An unshakeable drive towards exploring the possible depths of my creative potential.
