Meet Desiree Parker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Parker.

Hi Desiree, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started out modeling at the age of 15 years old and made it a full-time job by 18 years old. I always loved business and was drawn to the entertainment industry so it seemed like modeling was the best way for me to start applying my skills and making money. I started out by doing free photoshoots and fashion shows then was introduced to people who showed me how to get auditions and casting calls. Once I realized that modeling was something that I could make money off of, I decided to dedicate all of my time to doing it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Pursuing anything that is different from the norm is always going to be difficult. Especially something as competitive as modeling, but I believe that anything worth having isn’t going to come easy. On the business side, budgeting has been a big struggle. Modeling and acting does not come with a set work schedule or payday. You may not know when the next payday is. You get paid very sporadically and sometimes it can take weeks after working a job to get paid. That’s why it’s been extremely important for me to learn how to budget and prioritize appropriately. Modeling and acting also comes with a big financial investment. You have to make sure that your pictures are on point, hair and nails are done, wardrobe is nice, that you take classes. All of this needs to be in order to be able to earn money so budgeting and prioritizing expenses is big.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for being a model and actor who specializes in commercial bookings. I have been in commercials for brands such as Google, Disney, Levi’s, Nissan, and many more. I am also in Megan Good’s movie “If Not Now, When”. I am most proud of the integrity I have kept while working in this industry. In a field where there is so much competition and uncertainty, it often pushes people to do nasty things. I however have always known my boundaries, values, and morals. Even though I have been in this industry for over five years, I have not let it taint me. I still have strong values, do good business, do right by people, am honest and have good intentions. Even if that has meant sacrificing an opportunity. I know that if I move with integrity, then I will get the opportunities that are right for me.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that I feel has been most important to my success is my consistency and willingness to learn. Nothing great happens overnight, there is a process to everything. I have always understood this and used it as motivation to enjoy the process and not skip any steps. I know that this business is something that I am gifted in, so I’m okay with putting in the time and effort over a long period of time to ensure that I am successful. I believe in what I’m doing so much that it pushes me to want to work longer and harder than what’s required of me. I also am always looking at people to see what I can learn from them. I ask a lot of questions, but I also enjoy being present solely to listen. I don’t listen to everyone’s advice, but I know good information when I hear it.
