Meet Carl Anderson of CDA Photography in Compton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carl Anderson.

Carl, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Photography has been an interest since the 90’s and I’ve always owned a camera. I worked with children and families specializing in behavioral problems for about 15 years and always taken photos at various work-related events or family gatherings. Back in 2006 I booked my first paid gig which was photos for a party and it includes a pre-photoshoot for invites. After that I booked 3 more jobs from word of mouth and the next thing I knew I had a shoot every week. Hmmm…so I started researching more techniques and really studying the craft. I spent hours learning all the technical aspects of the camera and how to adjust for lighting and in 2008 bought my first (cheap lol) set of lights. I advertised on social media and by 2009 my weekends were either in studio or shooting some event. So I started spending hours on hours teaching myself all aspects of photography and editing. So to make this “long story” a bit shorter after being part of the layoff epidemic in 2009 I prayed on it and dived all the way into CDA Photography! Now I’m doing weddings, proms, senior photos, maternity, and helping models start their portfolios, also helping other photographer side get started by joining me on jobs or using my home studio. I love what I do and this is where I am now!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The beginning was as smooth as off roading on a tricycle! Lol Photography is a seasonal business so I found I had to make work and entice people with sales during those nonpeak times of the year. Constant marketing via social media helps a lot.

CDA Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
At CDA Photography I pride myself on making everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera. I want your best you to come out and I will capture it! I enjoy hearing people say how much they love my work and how I captured memories that they will cherish forever. We specialize in bringing high quality photography to people at an affordable price and will even customize a package to fit anyone’s budget within reason. What sets me apart from others? I think my personality and using my experience working with families and years of counseling to pull out the inner thoughts that make people feel comfortable and happy.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’ve had several but two that stand out are a lady wanted to do a shoot for her anniversary to give to her husband to try and spark the marriage up. She did a sexy but classy boudoir shoot that came out great but she was nervous. So a few days after the phone rang and it was her husband! Yea…I was like “oh boy”! Lol He actually called to thank me for capturing such great images of his wife. Later I found out the relationship had been at a standstill and this turned up the heat again after 3 years! That made me smile because I was once again able to help a family stay together but this time using the camera.

Excellent interview on CDA! He has been my photographer for the last three years with all my drum industry photos. Very humble and fair. Those artist, singers, musicians and bands need to get with him big time! You will be blessed.
