Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexia Bosch.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alexia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in a very musical family so music has always been around my house. My mom is a classical guitarist, my uncle an orchestra director, and my grandmother a piano player and choir director. I would see them rehearse with orchestras, practice their pieces, and there was always a steady stream of musicians coming in and out the house. I started singing when I was five years old at my school’s concerts as a solo singer and loved being on stage. It always made me the happiest when I entertained people when I made them feel something…I was definitely a different kind of kid.
I started taking singing lessons at the age of nine. In middle school, I would sing at weddings, private events, hospitals, and sometimes orphanages with my mom playing the guitar. I sang in a friend’s band and at 14, I created my Instagram account. When I turned 15, I posted my first singing video on my Instagram page and I continued doing covers every so often.
In September of 2015, I was contacted by IronHeart Records, a record label based in L.A., saying that they really liked my content and asked me if I’d be interested in becoming a professional singer. I remember being in the middle of my Spanish literature class when I got the DM from IronHeart Records and I wanted to jump out of the window from the excitement!
It turns out that the founder of the label was Barrett Yeretsian, the songwriter and producer of “Jar of Hearts,” a song that I loved and one of the first songs I started working on in my voice lessons. We then started Skyping twice a month or so and in January of 2016, I flew with my family to L.A. to meet Barrett and his team. When we got back home, they sent us a contract and my life has changed ever since!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I definitely had a lot of things to learn on this journey. I was a 16-year-old teen going through typical teenager stuff, and all of a sudden I was a working artist partnered with a record label from Los Angeles. I had to become much more responsible, learn how to work with other people professionally, how to write songs, and also had to sacrifice certain things like nights out with friends. I started homeschooling. After a year of working together long distance, I moved to Los Angeles, away from my family and friends, which posed a different set of challenges. But honestly, it didn’t really feel like a sacrifice because I knew I was pursuing my dream. That said, I do feel like these experiences made me grow much faster.
As I was still so young when I moved to L.A. by myself, I was in the middle of discovering myself. I had a lot to figure out about life (still do) like coming to terms with my insecurities, etc. and I believe that all of those struggles have informed how I see myself as an artist. It’s part of your story, the message you want to ultimately spread. I get a lot of inspiration for my music from my struggles, but that’s the beauty of songwriting!
What else should our readers know?
Singer-Songwriter signed to IronHeart Records.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment has definitely been the release of my first song, “Rebel Soul”. I was 17 when I recorded it and we’d been writing songs since 2016. It was a beautiful moment for everyone on the team when we released it in December 2017.
