Meet Adam Parth of Silver Gecko Photography & Design in Pasadena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Parth.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Adam. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been in business photographing weddings and events for 10 years as of this past May. I hold a degree in Journalism from Calif. State Univ., Northridge and I’ve had a camera in my hand my entire life. I became a professional photographer somewhat out of necessity. At the end of 2007 I left the position I held during college and had a hard time finding something else and decided to fall back on my skills. I started out by photographing dog agility trials and handing out cards with a link to an on-line gallery, hoping I might make a few prints sales. It was a lot of work with very little return. However, it was an amazing feeling knowing my photos were now in people’s homes. From there I learned more about the wedding and event industry, did a little second shooting, and learned how to grow my business.

Now I photograph countless weddings and events throughout the year in Southern California, Seattle, and destinations all over. At Silver Gecko Photography, we focus on creating a connection with our clients, creating art, and making lasting memories that live on through the various products we offer.

Has it been a smooth road?
If anyone says starting and running their business has been smooth they’re lying! Just like with most things, being a business owner has a learning curve; you either learn quickly and adapt or fail. When I started out I had no clue what I was doing (besides knowing how to take photos). I quickly learned that photography was but a small part of being a photographer. This is especially true in the ever-changing event industry. Thankfully I’ve always craved knowledge and continue to learn.

I will say that I think my greatest struggle is simply letting people know I’m here; the marketing aspect. Every now and then I tell my wife that all I want to do is create pretty pictures. The reality of it is that beyond being a photographer I must be an editor, and marketer, a branding expert, a guide, a coordinator, an accountant, and more.

Thankfully, I learned that are other people and services to help with such things. Perhaps my greatest struggle has been learning to let go.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Silver Gecko Photography & Design story. Tell us more about the business.
At Silver Gecko Photography & Design we strive to create a connection with all of our clients. After over a decade of capturing weddings we found the best images are those of the clients with which we’ve built a relationship. No one spends more time with a wedding couple before, during, and after your wedding than the photographer. Our personal touch helps keep our clients at ease and that reflects in the photos.

We do more than capture the moment; we create art. There is magic in photography and its ability to freeze a moment forever. A snapshot can capture the people, place, and time, but, a piece of art both captures and evokes emotion.

Lastly, we believe photos should be given life. Creating art is not enough, it must be viewed and shared. We give life to photos and memories through the various products we offer and we always start with one of our high-end albums. Viewing your art allows your memories live on. Sharing your art grows your legacy.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
There are always shifting trends in the wedding industry, I try not to get to caught up in those and simply strive to create beautiful timeless art. However, I do watch the trends in the photo industry. I don’t necessarily watch style changes, although important, but I keep an eye on the changes in technology.

The photo industry has changed drastically with the introduction of digital and the ease of its use. The interest in and production of mirrorless cameras is growing, which means new gear is in the future. A great photographer can take an amazing image with any camera, but it is important to have the right gear for the right job, and be able to produce the right products when it’s all said and done.
