Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamika Chandler.
Hi Tamika, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am the third oldest of nine children. I am the Owner of Heavenly tHAIRapy Studio in Fountain Valley CA, a small intimate salon suite that was birthed during the Pandemic and has been open for the last six months. I started this salon at the end of 2020 as a means to in the anxiety that women were expressing about being unable to go to the hair salon during the pandemic. I felt that if I opened and cater to clients individually, that they would feel safer and more compelled to continue safe visits and I would be able to refresh their appearance and rejuvenate their self-esteem. My husband Sasha and I opened the salon on January 1st and we had no idea that It would be here six months later thriving at a time where so many were being laid off from their occupations while I was here fulfilling my dream. At Heavenly tHAIRapy, I provide natural hair styling including braiding, Locs, Crochet hairstyles, and Hair extensions in a therapeutic atmosphere for my clientele, as well as Business Consulting and Mentoring.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been easy, yet, anything worth having never is! In the last six months, I worked a full-time job as a Regional Liaison for a Psychology firm where I managed the caseloads of eight psychologists and five neuropsychologists in over40 skilled nursing facilities throughout Los Angeles, Palm Springs and the San Fernando Valley. As the Los Angeles County Regional Liaison, I hold a degree in Psychology and effectively facilitated and nurtured relationships between the Psychologists, Neuropsychologist, Social workers, Medical Directors, and Nursing home Directors and Administrators in these various nursing homes. Simultaneously, I worked part-time for myself as a Professional Braider and Hairstylist, some weeks working up to 100 hours between both jobs while also working at a popular beauty shop in Irvine once a week. I found myself working three jobs from October 2020 to June 2021; it was then that my mind’s eye became open, and I became determined to work for myself and to put all of my strength, energy, resources, and belief in myself in order to launch Heavenly tHAIRapy as a brand. On June 30, 2021 I cut ties with corporate America and became my own boss.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about HEAVENLY tHAIRapy?
I developed my own hair care products, I have just completed the end stage of completing my own braiding hairline, and I am at the forefront of branching out into Business Consulting and Mentoring. My Dream is to utilize my Haircare products, along with My own Brand of Braiding Hair, and to install the hairstyles of my clients, All with HEAVENLY tHAIRapy Brand products. I am the prototype for all who have been afraid to step out and believe in themselves. The scariest thing I did was walk away from a safety cushion that I and so many other people believe is the only means to an end. The second scariest thing I did was step out on TRUE faith and believed in myself enough to know that I AM ENOUGH. I am not sure if you are familiar with Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, but at the tip top you will find Self-Actualization and that is the level that I am currently on. Having a supportive husband and family has been the cause of the growth of my wings, and now I am ready to give back.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson has been to find a way to LIVE your dream amongst all the noise that comes along your path. Don’t be afraid to leap out in into the unknown, for that is the very moment in which we grow our wings!!
