Today we’d like to introduce you to Shoniqua Alleyne.
Hi Shoniqua, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been a passion of mine since before I could remember. To this day, singing brings me so much joy and songwriting is my favorite form of communication.
After overcoming many life challenges, I decided to take my passion seriously. I started the Beauty & Soul Podcast to document my evolution. I founded the Beauty & Soul Lifestyle in 2015 as a platform for young, creative entrepreneurs to discuss the “B-side” of life, love, and business. Over time I noticed many people had similar experiences as discussed on the podcast which allowed the Beauty & Soul Podcast to become an international source of inspiration.
After years of podcasting, I realized it was time to put my money where my mouth was. In 2016, I packed up my daughters, my things and put them into a storage unit. I purchased a one-way ticket to New York City. I knew if I wanted to become the artist, I would be proud of I needed to learn where legends learned.
After living and learning in New York for four years, I started my own music publishing and production company called Soulfully Written Production.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Lol. Smooth where? No. There have been many challenges throughout my journey. The biggest challenge I had to face was my self-sabotaging beliefs about myself and my talents. Learning how to trust my intuition and stop asking for permission to live was life changing. After a while, I was tired of not pursuing my dreams so I made a change.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a singer-songwriter and vocal producer. I like to create honest soulful sounds that promote healing and unity. I really enjoy creating lyrics from real-life experiences. The passion and melodies flow to me easier when the stories behind the songs are authentic.
I’m most proud of my debut single “Good Vibes” because it was the hardest and quickiest song for me to create. The song was the hardest for me to release because it was my first solo song. I no longer had a choir to stand behind or a cover song to mimic. I had to allow myself to be heard and felt which was challenging after my ten years singing hiatus. Although “Good Vibes” was the hardest song for me to release, it was the quickest for me to write, arrange, and record. Everything came together because the lyrics were longing to be told and the melody was no longer a mystery. I was doing exactly what I was meant to do.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Well people can support me by checking out my music that’s on all streaming platforms and looking out for my debut EP in July. I’m super excited about releasing new music.
People can collaborate with me by connecting with me on social media or emailing me.
I’m always open to collaborating with other artists and creatives. I enjoy creating and finding ways to unify the collective through music.
