Conversations with Baby Boi Peru

Today we’d like to introduce you to Baby Boi Peru.

Hi Baby Boi Peru, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a native of Lima, Peru, my name is Piero Alexander Valdizan and I was born on March 12, 1985. My family migrated to the U.S. in the spring of ’91 in pursuit of The American Dream. Throughout my adolescence, I was influenced by my brothers’ tastes of hip-hop and rap music and by my family’s passion for lively traditional Latin music. At 19 years of age, I followed my older brothers to Orange County, California for a summer sales job. While living in California, I met a local artist on Myspace who collaborated on my first recordings. We sampled hip-hop and reggaetón beats and recorded our music on her computer. I got my artist name from a childhood nickname given to me by my siblings and from a friend’s unique way of spelling boy. I added Peru to the end of my artist name as a tribute to my native country.

In 2008 I made my original track “City of Angels,” which was a California hip-hop song that was supposed to get played on the radio through a music promoter I was introduced to. Unfortunately, the promoter didn’t fulfill his part, the song went unreleased and I took a break from music. My decision mainly stemmed from the feeling of not being authentic with the music I was creating. I decided to finish college instead and earn a Bachelors Degree in business from Utah Valley University. Shortly after graduating university, I got a job as a corporate management and sales supervisor. In 2014 my brother Valentino, a very popular promoter at the trendiest nightclubs in Hollywood at the time, moved in with me and convinced me to quit my day job to become business partners. We promoted nightclubs by night and worked on our side business by day. During these years, I became exposed to the Hollywood lifestyle I would make music about. I decided to officially release “City of Angels” and use my newfound connections to get my song played at nightclubs throughout Los Angeles.

After a ten years hiatus from recording music, I decided to continue creating music again. I decided to record an album based on my life journey and title it Authenticity. The album is scheduled to be released in 2021-2022.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a mission like the book The Alchemist. The answer has always been there I just had to follow the omens. The hardest thing about doing music is that it requires a lot of faith. Everyone around you wants to see you make it but not seeing the results immediately can sometimes test your faith. Leaning to your faith is crucial.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like music. I enjoy creating it. It’s fun it’s what I like to do as a career. I specialize in the ability to be able to create a song from scratch in my mind and bring it to existence. I consider myself a connoisseur of different music which is why I feel confident in my ability to make great music. I’m proud of my ability to make hit music.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
God is great and he gives in abundance. During Covid, he has constantly provided us with so much it’s truly a blessing. These times have reminded me of all that gifts constantly given to me and why having faith in God and Jesus Christ is key to everything.
