Check Out James Hunt’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Hunt.

Hi James, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was born and raised in New York on the Lower East Side. My love for basketball began at a very young age. My father taught me the game of basketball. He inspired me to strive and focus on the journey regardless of the obstacles.  In 2005, I moved to Los Angeles and had the honor of training and managing then starting Laker point guard Smush Parker which gave me the platform to showcase my talents. That experience helped me find my niche which led to successful business relationships starting with the likes of Former Kiehls Owner and current Retrouve owner Klaus and Jami Heidegger, the Lakers, Clippers, Sparks, Jr NBA, Nike, Adidas, Magic Johnsons 24 Hour Fitness, with NBA/WNBA Greats Shaquille Oneal, Marques Johnson and Candace Parker, Simpsons Creative Producer Richard Sakai, Marketing and Digital Media icon Jeron Smith, Music Moguls Terry Lewis and Steve Rifkind, Iconic singer Idinal Menzel, and actor Taye Diggs, amongst many others. My father’s expertise, my business relationships, and many impactful experiences from the East to West coast are at the heart of my organization.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Growing up on the Lower East Side, NY there were many struggles to find opportunities athletically and financially.  In order to pursue my basketball dreams, I had to take a 3- 4 hour daily commute to school and AAU practice by myself.  I had no choice but to grow up quickly as the NYC train life was not always the most pleasant. There were days, I had to protect myself just because I was passing through the wrong parts of NYC. Gyms memberships were not financially feasible and at times I was forced to work on my game in the freezing cold. However, what I had to endure helped me to develop my independence and self awareness. During that everyday commute, I learned to multitask and complete my homework/study knowing I had other obligations at home.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am recognized as a premier trainer, developer, and mentor with over 20 years of experience with clients ranging from the age of five to NBA professionals. As the head of this company, we specialize in fundamentally developing a player’s skillset and confidence on and off the court. What I’m most proud of is seeing players grow into their purpose and potential. What sets
myself/us apart from others is our work ethic, dedication, and desire to continuously master the details of our craft. One can never stop improving.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In 5-10 years I see myself acknowledged as one of the premier training companies in the country. My biggest shift occurs daily, moving away from the current Culture of Basketball and developing the players fundamentally. Many of our youth and coaches are developed through social media which gets attention but does not reflect on the stat sheet or in the win column. I don’t work this hard to be a trend, I strive to leave a legacy and lasting impression and to be the Ralph Lauren of player development. The goal is to transcend the culture of this game and my influence to be continued long after I’m gone.
