Today we’d like to introduce you to Orange County’s United Rose Deli & Pho Restaurant.
What’s the United Rose Deli & Pho Restaurant story? The who/what/when/where/why?
Our History:
As a young girl and immigrant from Vietnam, Thuy Linh Holland was raised by a Danish family who lived on a farm in Minnesota. She grew up learning how to cook in the Danish tradition with her Aunt, who was a home economics teacher and who was also very special to her. Day in and day out they made sandwiches for the farmers.
As a young adult she started experimenting in the kitchen. She wanted to go back to her roots and cook traditional Vietnamese cuisine. She joined the 4H club and presented award winning Egg Rolls.
As an adult she pursued a career as a Dental Hygienist for over 36 years .
Today, Thuy is pursuing her passion of cooking. She believes in the philosophy of eating healthy, with all of the colors of the rainbow and is actively pursuing to further her education and establish a career as a Nutrionist. She is incorporating her love of food, with the family and friends she has from east to west. Now she is working alongside with her very close friend, Rose Huong Vo, who is an excellent chef.
In speaking with any restaurateurs I’ve come to learn that the restaurant business can be brutal. How has it been for you? What’s been the hardest part?
It was difficult to get to where we are. The biggest challenges were getting the word out to the public, being one of many pho restaurants in the area, and the location was not ideal. Getting people to know about us was the most difficult. We know that if we focus on quality and customer service, we would be more attractive to potential customers. Being one of many pho restaurants in the area inspired us to be a little different from the rest of the crowd. To overcome the location issue, we added more lighting to the windows to enhance the visibility of our restaurant.
What we love about independent, non-chain restaurants is that the independents bring new ideas forward. What’s interesting or unique about United Rose Deli & Pho Restaurant
We serve complimentary desserts which change daily and have some dishes which are not common for a pho restaurant. Based on our customers’ online comments, our ambiance is fairly unique and welcoming. Our after- meal candy selection is also diverse.
