The Weekly Bite: holy grounds coffee and tea in El Sereno

Today we’d like to introduce you to El Sereno’s holy grounds coffee and tea.

How did you end up in the restaurant business?
Holy Grounds opened July 2012 under the guiding hand of Steven Boland. After being laid off in the Non-Profit sector, Steve refocused his creativity energy, transforming his home, into a one of a kind cafe destination that mixes a southwestern vibe with a reclaimed materials aesthetic

We’d love to learn more about the struggles you’ve had along the way.
One of our biggest challenges was operating an actual business. Maintaining and growing a Cafe is like nurturing and pruning a Garden. Strip out what you don’t need and feed what you do. It’s a delicate balance between listening to our customer base and our own perceptions. In 2016, we experienced a fire on the premises as well as a car collision. We have been closed for reconstruction for 7 months and hope to be open in late July. We have taken this opportunity to focus on the core values of our shop: Nourishment, Community and Culture, applying those values accordingly.

Tell us something interesting or unique about holy grounds coffee and tea.
