The People’s Champion Dr. Jeff Rocker | Celebrity Therapist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jeff Rocker.

Hi Dr. Jeff, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Based on my extensive work with celebrities across the country, I was deemed the “Celebrity Therapist” by my clients, which spread very quickly through the entertainment industry.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been easy. I had to create my own lane in this field without a lot of mentors to pave the way.

The road to graduating from college and becoming a doctor was often fretted with sweat and tears. I am a Haitian American Male. I did not come from generational wealth.

Everything I have achieved has come from a belief and desire that I could succeed and break barriers and even though I had a passion for sports, I wanted to put my imprint on the world in a way that fueled my passion for athletics and entertainment in a non-traditional way– as an expert who could help athletes and others who struggle with mental health issues.

Given my environment growing up, I could have easily become a statistic and fall victim to the traps that often take down young black men. But I stayed focused and believed in myself and my potential to succeed.

As a mental health therapist, I am dedicated to using all the tools and knowledge I’ve gained to help celebrities, couples, youth, and especially young black men. I want them to know that it’s ok to feel like you don’t have it all together. There is no shame in asking for help and getting therapy when you are struggling with an issue. And I’m here for them when they need a professional to listen and really care.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
One of the outreach programs that I’m especially proud of is called Hip Hop Therapy. This is an interactive workshop I offer in high schools and for organizations across South Florida. The goal is for students to have a safe space to express themselves in an unconventional manner.

Growing up with a musical background, this program is one that truly resonates with me on a personal level.

Also this year I was honored with the Key to the City of North Miami Beach for my mental health work in the community. I am very thankful and appreciative of that recognition.

How do you think about luck?
I believe it’s important to think positively and that feeling may help generate luck. When you feel that good things can happen it’s often infectious and can help to manifest those desires into existence.

I have felt lucky to be able to have a career where I am making a difference in the world by helping people improve their mental health. When you feel mentally fit and healthy you remove barriers to your creativity and better enjoy your life.
