Story & Lesson Highlights with Marshecka Rodgers

We recently had the chance to connect with Marshecka Rodgers and have shared our conversation below.

Marshecka , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve found a lot of joy in my early morning routine, waking up before the world gets busy, journaling, and spending a little quiet time grounding myself before the day begins. It’s been a peaceful way to stay connected to gratitude and intention, and it helps me show up more creatively and intentionally in my work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Marshecka Rodgers, founder and creative director of Marshecka Weddings & Events, a luxury planning and design firm devoted to crafting experiences that linger long after the final farewell.

While weddings are the heart of our story, the soul of what we do, our work extends to corporate and specialty events where storytelling, design, and emotion intertwine. Whether it’s an intimate celebration or an elevated brand experience, our approach remains the same: intentional, elegant, and artfully composed.

At Marshecka Weddings & Events, we believe luxury isn’t about excess, it’s about essence. It’s in the way light dances across a table setting, the way a moment feels suspended in time, the way guests leave carrying a feeling they can’t quite describe but will never forget.

Our clients come to us not just for an event, but for an experience that reflects their story, refined, personal, and beautifully timeless. Every detail is guided by purpose, every design rooted in emotion.

What makes our work unique is our commitment to intentional beauty, crafting celebrations and experiences that are as meaningful as they are exquisite. We don’t follow trends; we create legacies of moments that endure.

Currently, we’re expanding our creative direction and design services, collaborating with both private clients and brands who value artistry and authenticity. For me, it’s about more than planning, it’s about curating emotion, designing meaning, and transforming gatherings into memories that live beautifully in time.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a quiet observer of beauty, someone who found wonder in the smallest moments. I was endlessly fascinated by how emotion could transform a space, how intention could make something simple feel sacred.

I didn’t yet have a title or a company, but I carried an innate desire to make people feel, to create moments that spoke without words. That gentle dreamer is still very much a part of me. She’s simply grown into someone who gives form to feeling, who curates beauty with purpose, and who believes that every celebration, whether a wedding, corporate gathering, or private affair, holds the power to become a lasting memory.

In many ways, Marshecka Weddings & Events is a reflection of her, the part of me that believes luxury is not about perfection, but about presence. It’s about honoring the experience beautifully, with intention, emotion, and a reverence for the moments that matter most.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. There have been seasons in my journey where the weight of building a business, being a mother, a wife, a woman of faith, and a leader all at once felt overwhelming. There were moments where I questioned whether the dream God placed on my heart was truly mine to carry, moments where the work was heavy, the support felt thin, and the vision seemed bigger than the resources in front of me.

One of the hardest points came during a time when everything in my life felt stretched, financially, emotionally, spiritually. I was serving others, planning incredible events for clients, yet privately wrestling with fear and exhaustion. I remember sitting alone one evening, feeling like I had poured everything out and had nothing left to give. It was the closest I had ever come to saying, “Maybe this isn’t meant for me.”

But in that still moment, I felt a conviction so clear it anchored me: You’re not done. I’m not finished with you.

That experience became a turning point. Instead of giving up, I chose to rebuild from intention, and from faith. I revisited my why, to create legacy-driven experiences, building generational excellence, and serve with purpose. And through that process, I’ve learned to completely trust God and the plan He has for my life as I plan these amazing events. Today, I walk in complete faith, knowing that I’m following God’s blueprint, not my own.

The very moments that almost broke me ended up refining me. They strengthened my resilience, deepened my spiritual grounding, and shaped the way I lead, design, and serve.
What once felt like an ending became the beginning of a deeper kind of faith.

Now, when I walk into an event, a consultation, or a creative space, I carry a deeper sense of clarity and gratitude, not because the journey has been easy, but because I know I am aligned with purpose. The moments I almost gave up became the moments that revealed exactly who I was becoming.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies our industry tells itself is that luxury only lives in excess, in the grand, the glittering, the over-the-top. But true luxury isn’t measured by how much you create; it’s defined by why you create it.

Luxury can be vast, filled with abundant florals, sweeping designs, and breathtaking scale, when it’s born from a story that truly deserves that expression. And it can also be found in the quiet, in the stillness of a handwritten note or the warmth of an intimate dinner under candlelight.

Whether bold or understated, the thread that ties it all together is intention. Because luxury, at its highest form, isn’t about status, it’s about storytelling. It’s the art of making meaning visible.

Because every love story deserves to be told in the language that feels most true to it, whether soft and soulful or bold and breathtaking.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I built more than a business, that I built beauty with purpose.
That through every wedding, every conversation, and every season, I reflected God’s love and excellence.

I hope they remember that I led with love and kindness, that I honored every experience beautifully, creating spaces where people felt seen, valued, and deeply cared for. That I served with grace, designed with intention, and carried faith as my foundation.

When I’m gone, I want my story to sound like a whisper of legacy, a woman who turned her God-given vision into spaces where love felt tangible. Not because everything was perfect, but because everything was purposeful.

If people remember me as someone who led with heart, uplifted others, and created beauty that outlived the moment, then I’ve lived the story I was meant to tell.
