We’re looking forward to introducing you to Genesis Mayorga. Check out our conversation below.
Genesis, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Right now, I feel like I’m being called to truly love myself in ways I never allowed before. For most of my life, I cared too much about what other people thought of me. I would put their needs first, ignore my own feelings, and say yes when deep down I wanted to say no just to avoid conflict or disappointing someone else. On the outside, it seemed like I was being “easygoing,” but inside it left me feeling unseen, unfulfilled, and disconnected from who I really was.
Now, I’m learning to honor my own voice and trust myself. I’m figuring out what I actually like, what I truly want, and what feels aligned for me not what I think I should want, or what others expect of me. This journey has taught me the importance of self worth, of not settling in relationships, opportunities, or even in the small choices I make every day. It’s about realizing I deserve more than just getting by, I deserve to create a life that feels authentic and fulfilling.
It hasn’t been easy, because breaking old patterns can feel uncomfortable. But every time I choose myself, I feel a little stronger and freer. Right now, I know I’m being called to set boundaries without guilt, to stop tolerating what doesn’t feel right, and to build a future that truly reflects who I am.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Genesis Mayorga, and I’m the founder of GeniGen Skin. My journey began as a teenager struggling with acne. My mom always instilled the importance of taking care of my skin, but no matter how consistent I was, I still found myself battling breakouts that affected my confidence. Eventually, I went to a dermatologist who prescribed me oral antibiotics for six months, birth control, and later accutane. Those treatments took a serious toll on my health. I lost so much weight, felt sick after eating, and when accutane caused dangerously high liver enzymes, I ended up in urgent care and had to stop treatment immediately.
That experience forced me to take a different approach. I began learning about the connection between gut health and skin, and when I started working on healing my gut, my skin began to transform. I still had acne just not as much. A few years later, a close friend told me she was going back to school to become an Esthetician. At the time, I didn’t even know what an Esthetician was, but I was at a place in life where I felt like I had nothing going for myself and wanted to try something new. I enrolled in Community college and applied for the Esthetics program. It happen so naturally, it’s like it was always meant to be. I instantly fell in love with it, and started applying everything I learned on myself and the people around me, and people trusted me, even when I was still in school practicing and learning.
After graduating and earning my license, opening my own spa came naturally. With GeniGen Skin, I’ve created more than just a studio. I’ve built a space that feels like home. My clients know they’re not just coming in for facials; they’re walking into an environment where they can relax, feel safe, feel cared for, and be supported through their journey. What makes my brand unique is the balance between results driven treatments and a nurturing, welcoming atmosphere.
Today, my mission is to continue growing GeniGen Skin into a true community, where people can learn, heal, and feel empowered. Because for me, skincare is about so much more than glowing skin, it’s about self worth, confidence, and finally feeling at home in your own skin.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that most shaped how I see myself was with someone who showed me a version of myself I couldn’t see on my own. He loved the very things I was most insecure about my body, my looks, the parts of me I tried to hide. Through his eyes, I started to see beauty, strength, and worth in myself. That changed the way I carried myself and helped me build confidence from the inside out.
He was also incredibly supportive of my goals and dreams. His ambition sparked mine, and we inspired each other to stay focused and driven. We could sit in the same room, working on different things, and still feel connected, it gave me a sense of comfort and home I had never experienced before. Sometimes it almost felt unreal to have someone believe in me so much, and because of that, I carried a deep fear of losing him.
That relationship shaped me by teaching me how valuable it is to have someone who truly believes in you. It helped me learn to believe in myself, and that shift in how I saw myself has stayed with me ever since and has continued to grow.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be: speak up, don’t be scared. As a child, I was full of fear. I stayed quiet, kept my feelings inside, and was afraid to go after what I really wanted. I would tell that little girl that it’s okay to use her voice, it’s okay to take up space, and it’s okay to chase the things that light her up.
I would remind her that life is too short to live in fear or to let other people’s opinions define her. She is not what others say she is, she is enough exactly as she is. I’d want her to know that everything will be okay, and that one day she’ll look back and be proud of how far she’s come.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think my closest friends would say that what really matters to me is growth, connection, and authenticity. They know I care deeply about becoming the best version of myself, but also about bringing the people I love along with me on that journey. I’m the type of person who celebrates my friends’ wins just as much as my own, and I want the people around me to feel seen, supported, and encouraged.
They would probably also say that I value creating meaningful moments, whether that’s through deep conversations, laughter, or even just being present together. To me, life isn’t about surface-level things, it’s about building relationships, having purpose, and finding peace in who you are.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What light inside you have you been dimming?
The light I’ve been dimming is my confidence and my voice. For a long time, I was afraid to fully step into who I am. I worried about what people would think, I kept quiet to avoid conflict, and I made myself smaller so I wouldn’t take up too much space. Even as I grew, I sometimes held back my ideas, my ambition, and even my personality out of fear of being “too much.”
But I’ve realized that dimming my light doesn’t serve me or anyone else. I have a gift for connecting with people, for making others feel at home, and for showing them what’s possible when you don’t give up on yourself. That light deserves to shine. Now, I’m learning to own my presence, embrace my worth, and let my confidence be a guide, not just for myself, but as inspiration for the people around me.
