Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaye Bank$.
Hi Zaye, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Originally from Southside Chicago. A lot of people don’t know how much death and violence I saw and experienced just growing up in the city. Most of us growing up ain’t think we would make it pass 16 or think we would make it out alive… but by the grace of God I did, so now I’m being as true as possible expressing all my experiences in the music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My road has been full of ups and downs, I mean—growing up, it was losing family and friends to gun violence, having a distorted relationship with my Dad really affected me behind the scenes. Obviously, now in life there’s a lot of things in the world that don’t feel right or aligned with my intuition but I’ve learned to be really resilient, discerning, and way more protective over my mind, body and soul. More so trusting my heart with all possibilities for my best experience and evolution, realizing I should keep releasing how I truly think & feel in the music, and not explaining myself or looking for any validation, I get all the enlightenment from within.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Most people don’t know but I’ve been in band since I was seven years old and in choir since I was 11. I always had a deep love for music, I started mixing singing and rapping together but somehow, I still can be shy about putting it out for some reason. I would say I’m most known for my single “LANE” that dropped in 2018, that surprisingly led to a nine show tour where I performed around the DMV with some unreleased songs. Now a lot of people been hearing my new single “DAZE” on the radio so that’s really dope because it’s my first single from the new era, I didn’t expect it to do so well so soon… and honestly, I’m so grateful for all the love and cool reactions I hear because it was really different for me to go in that direction with my sound and my voice so I love that there’s beings that genuinely enjoy my creations. My spirit fasho sets me apart from others… If you know me in real life or online, you would think I’m from another galaxy or some, but that’s what I love about me, I know I’m out of this world and I’m not afraid to embrace it.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If I could share anything, it would be never give up on yourself and keep faith in knowing you will overcome even when you feel like there’s no way out, always trust your intuition no matter what someone outside of you says or appears to be.
