Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Sale.
Hi Zach, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2009, I met the Queen of my life, Jacqueline (Jax), who I made Mrs. Sale in 2010. She’s my reason for everything. When we met, she asked me, “Baby, if you could do any job in the world, what would it be?” And I told her, “Pay me to act. I want to be in movies and on TV.” From that day to the present, we have journeyed doing just that. We were originally located in the southeast about an hour north of Atlanta, Georgia.
In 2010 Atlanta was just becoming a hotspot for film and television productions. Jax and I, Jax, acting as my agent and my acting coach, sought out and submitted to non-union projects so that I could start getting my feet wet and familiar with this new career was going to work. Up until this point in my life, I was 26 years old, the only acting I had done was a small part in a production of “Casablanca” in my high school in 2000. Shout out to my drama teacher, Mr. Brendlinger for recognizing I might have a shot at doing this type of work. And while on a nonunion feature film with a group of guys who are still very much in the industry and very successful, I met another actor who recommended me to an agent in Atlanta, Georgia. This was in 2011, once I made that connection, I was being submitted for union jobs and quickly began booking parts in major Productions. The first major television, gig I did, was Lifetime Network’s “Drop Dead Diva” then I booked another costar role that same year on vampire diaries, season three, followed by the Tyler Perry film, “Temptation: confessions of a marriage counselor”…. That was a lot of fun. I opened the film with my costar, and a lot of the dialogue you hear off-screen in the very beginning, we actually improvised. That same year I booked my first guest star role on the USA Networks show. “Burn Notice.” and then I booked a recurring role on the BET show “The Game”. I played Chuck the bar manager and came back for a total of five episodes. In 2012, I moved out to Los Angeles, California,…where I was accepted in and became a member of SAG…now SAG-AFTRA. I also began training with Lesly Kahn, I studied at the Groundlings and sat in with Scott Sedita.
I’ve since booked many more television shows which can be found on my IMDb page as well as the faith-based film starring Jennifer Garner., “Miracles from Heaven.” I played Dr. Todd, Blythe, and one of the scenes I’m in with Jennifer is actually in the trailer. A lot of people did not like me after that role because my character was a bit of a jerk, yikes, but I’m really I’m not…I swear it.
I got to work with Tyler Perry again on BET’s “ambitions” in 2019 where I played Eddie and kidnapped the mayor’s son. The show was my first on screen make out scene. My costar was fantastic, and the crew was wonderful.
In 2021, I got to work with Marvel Studios. That was like a dream Come true.
I currently train weekly in a scene study class at RD Studio with Robert D’Vanzo and weekly sessions at Scott Sedita Studios. I’ve been acting now professionally for 12 years, and I see classes and coaching sessions for acting like any athlete who goes to the gym or practices his swing at the bat. It’s necessary to keep me sharp and present..: as long as I’m learning, I’m growing.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I started acting later in my life, I was 26 years old when I walked into my first audition room. My very first audition with a casting Director, I had no idea about staying in frame, she had a camera up to tape the session to show producers. During my audition I walked completely out of frame, I turned around and spoke to the wall, I knelt down again out of frame…and performed my Audition as though I was on a stage, giving a performance to a playhouse. the casting Director looked at me like I was crazy, which I interpreted as “She must think I’m amazing!” Needless to say, I did not get called back for that role. But I learned a valuable lesson, and I’ve never walked out a frame since.
I knew no one in this industry. When I started, everything I’ve learned I’ve done by experience on set or classes. I lost my father in 2021, he was my best friend. He was one of my biggest fans and always told me I could do this. And he’s right, I am. But losing him was tough, and I had to take some time off to deal with the loss. Only a few months though and got right back to it, knowing that dad would want me to do just that.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an actor who also owns a construction company. The wife and I started a construction company in 2021. Our construction company is Boomtown Construction. And we are a fully licensed general contractor for the entire state of California. We do anything from Roofing to new windows to exterior painting, etc. We’re also licensed as a general contractor for the state of Tennessee.
Although I am an actor first, Jax and I like to be diversified with our income and construction is something I’ve been doing for nearly 20 years…
Jax also owns her own law firm and is licensed in 3 states. California, Florida, and Tennessee.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories, my mother took me to the premiere of Tim Burton’s “Batman Returns.” There was a news channel there, as well as a reporter from the local sentinel. Being the ham I was as a kid I caught the eye of the journalist from the paper and he featured me on the front cover of the arts and entertainment section as an excited fan attending the “Batman Returns” premier. Although I wouldn’t get into Acting for another 18 years, I held onto the newspaper clipping forever…
