Today we’d like to introduce you to Yasmine Vine.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was bon in Tehran – Iran. I lived in America from ages 3-10 and at 10 years old I moved back to Iran.. I always had aspirations to sing and dance and began writing songs at age 7. In Iran it is illegal for women to sing, dance and express themselves freely as it is an Islamic republic so I dreamt about moving back to America. When I became a young adult I was able to move out of Iran by myself and come to LA. It was a dream come true! I studied music but due to my Islamic upbringing singing on stage was very uncomfortable for me at that time. So in order to shed my inhibitions I became a Burlesque dancer in Hollywood. I figured if I could do Burlesque, I could do anything! I began performing all over Hollywood, Las Vegas and even Vancouver BC. I was able to perform Burlesque to my own songs. Burlesque not only gave me the opportunity to transform myself but provided a stage for me to be able to sing my own music and master the art of performance. A casting director came to a show one night and casted me in a film and after that my acting career also began. It has been and is a continuous adventurous, exciting, expanding and beautiful journey! I am very grateful everyday to wake up in Los Angeles and be able to do what I love!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
LOL NOT AT ALL! Along the way there has been both internal and external barriers that I have had to overcome and still work daily on overcoming. I grew up Muslim so I had to transform a lot of my beliefs and change myself in order to be able to do burlesque and express myself fearlessly and freely. The entertainment industry also has a lot of barriers and ups and downs. I have found overcoming each obstacle to be a rewarding experience that causes you to learn and grow. Stepping out of your comfort zone is essential for growth. Living in your comfort zone is not very exciting!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do many creative things. I am a writer ( of songs, books, scripts) and an Actress but mostly I am a burlesque dancer and singer.
I am most proud of a Children’s book I just completed about a black cat that will be in bookstores soon! 🙂
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
